I have seen some smoking deals on R's lately. I would guess that alot of people are stering away from the R's with the realease of some of the new sport quads. The 250R is still the best sport quad out there but they are expensive to maintain compared to current production models.

You can bet that the used 400ex prices are going to tank when the honda 450....

ya there going down, simply because of the realese of all these new bikes.... Fine with me a cheap r is better than an expensive one!:)

I think the 400EX is going to drop much more than the R.

yeah there are more 400ex out there than anything else, the 400ex and r will always be the basis for any good quad

the 400ex is going to go down alot. its a 4 stroke and with a new 4 stroke coming to take its place.... well there arent going to be alot of people wanting 400ex's becuase there is somthing better out there.

the 250r is a 2 stroke and there will always be die hard 2 stroke riders out there. plus i dont think the 250r will ever die out of racing. its easily moddified and imo will kick @ss till the end of quad racing

i think 250rs kick *** i would take my 250r over a 400ex anyday i like the way 250rs are stable and easy to whip into turns and power slide i love 250rs ...bur for 4 strokes rite now i deffiently would get a 400

but i will stick with my 250r maybe ill get a 450r if the price is good :macho

I agree, but I don't think the 2 strokes are ever going to completely go away. National level, yes, the 2-strokes are dying out, but at the local level races, I think the 2-strokes are going strong, simply because of cost. It would take $1200 in motor upgrades in a 400EX to beat a 250r with $200 pipe and $300 port job.

At the local level, I can pick up a good 400EX for $3500, put $1200 into the motor and $1000 into suspension, and I can have a race-ready quad for $5700.

Or, I can pick up a 250r for $3500 (it will already have the pipe), put $1000 into suspension, and if the riders are the same skill level, could probably beat the 400EX, for only $4500.

I wouldn't exactly say that. Coming from a non-rider (that wants a quad) point of view, the 400EX will become a good entry level quad (depending on whether or not Honda dicontinues the 250EX or the 300EX). While It won't be the top race quad, there are still uses for it. You've got trail riders who don't need all the power of a 450 (or can't handle it), XC racers, recreational riders, and it can still be a good FMX quad with a few mods. A 400EX is what I'm currently hopping to get when I have the money for one. With any new product the price of the preceding model will drop, that's good news for anyone looking to buy, and bad news for those selling.

yes i agree. i think it will become like the 300ex did when the 400 came out. it will still be good for racing but you will have to hop it up alot just to becompetitive with the "next level" quad. as for FMX you can really do that on any quad as long as it has good suspension and a fast accelorating motor.

you can make ANY motor fast, but I think there will be alot of ppl that will regret getting rid of their R's after they dump mega $$into these new rides and find that the R they had still handled better,JMO;) ........AH HAHAHAHA:D j/p

the only way Im selling out is if I cant find a straight frame...had a run in w/ a BIG rock:( :( :( :(

I would not trade my R for any of these new bikes. The thing about these new four-strokes (YFZ 450 and the 450 honda) is that they require alot of maintenance and are almost maxed out in terms of power.

For most of us guys that don't race on at a track, a 250r has a lot more potential. I just like play riding and dragging the big new "hi-tech" quads. So far my 310 has held its ground. I don't know if the YFZ or TRX450R could take me, but if they do PV 350 here I come.

VERY GOOD POINT! with all these new high tech quads why arent they still beating these outdated 250rs? lol and look how many cc's it takes to beat one.........:p

Yep, I know how you guys feel, I had a 400ex, and I am switching to a R. In the long run its a lot better! Way cheaper for MX. Also if the R does end up going down to nothing ( which it never will) Aftermarket frame and a CRF450 motor. Notice how all the quads now a days are 250r based geometry.... because the design is proven. I cant wait till its 25 years old imagine how much they will be worth :blah: I think they will be worth a pretty penny, because they are already harder to get than any other quad.

Right now I truely dislike the 400ex, its got no power stock, and it takes too much money to mod it out, the only thing it has going for itself is handling and reliablity. I will take an R over a 400ex anyday of the week. My 400ex will be up for sale in a month.

unless your racing.. and wanna keep up w/ the hardcore gang..I wouldnt sweat it,the R and 400ex are much worthy quads no matter what ,I personally dont think these new quads are gonna be the "answer to all",nobody wants to hear that their pride n joy is worth less...,hang on to those units guys;)

i would not mind having a new 450, but i would never sell my R for one, cuz it is just as good if not better. i have 6500 into my R and it will be fairly competitive on any race track (cept pro). these new bikes are around 7000 and arent nearly close enough to be competitive in an A or maybe even a B level race. and damn, 2 strokes are just so much more fun:blah: hahaha, o well, my $.02
