Most of you run a 50/50 mix of race gas and pump gas. Why not run straight race gas? :confused:

With your mods you should just run premium. Anything more than 93 or 94 octane is just wasting money on a mostly stock 400.

It also just isn't necessary without very high compression. With excessive octane ratings, the fuel burn is less intense. It is best to use only the amount you need to prevent pinging/detonation, and also a lot cheaper. Mostly, the gain you feel from running race fuel is just in the actual quality of the fuel, not the octane. Just imagine all the chit in pump gas (additives, detergents, moisture, sand, rust, etc.) It isn't a lot, but it definitely makes a difference. When fuels aren't stored in bulk tanks, and kept fresh, they tend to burn much more efficently and intensely. With roughly 11.2:1 compression, I run about a 60/40 mix of race gas to premium pump gas. I have a speedway in my area, so you can get race fuel at the gas stations for around $3.29-$3.50/gal., but for most everyone else, the cost is significantly greater due to the need to special order in race fuels from suppliers. race gas here is $4 a gal. for 100 octane and $6 a gal. for 110..pump gas is 1.92 a gal...i think ima run 100 octane when i get mine back together
