Were switching over to those in a week here at work, how is the reception with those being that they are strictly digital?

Pappy

i think the reception is piss poor compared to some cell companies. but its not bad really around here and the two way feature is really cool...although i log over 4000 minutes a month on two way:ermm:

i had heard they were gonna go nationwide ...i guess they did:D

Ya, they did it about 6-8weeks ago. BTW, if you don't sign up for unlimited nationwide 2way, you get charged $.10/min.

Don't you have to sign up for nation wide coverage for 2 way???

They have a nationwide 2way plan. If I remember correct, it's like $10.99/month for unlimited use. Otherwise, it's the straight up $.10/min deal.
That works out to 109 minutes if you're trying to figure out if it's worth it or not to sign up.:D

They went nation wide when we went to hatfield.

I am really disappointed with there service. Being we tend to ride in out of the way places, there are a lot of places I don't get service.

I went to colorado a couple of years back and went snowmobiling. Well needless to say we got stuck and had to call 911. We were 15000 feet up in the middle of nowhere, but luckly my cingular phone worked. I know my nextel wouldn't have. I'm switching as soon as my contract is up.

Ya their coverage needs to improve a bunch. I just seen that Verizon now has what they call "push-to-talk". Finally, some competition for Nextel. Maybe this will force them to step up their service and coverage.

Nextel just doesnt work well around here for some reason so I had to dump it. However, I bought a lot of stock Nextel about a year and a half ago for just over $3.00 and it is now in the $18 to $20 range. :D

The coverage sucks, but the two way really comes in handy. Verizion has a two way coming out and they have the best coverage in the nation.:D

I've had nextel for a few years now, and I don't have a problem with there coverage at all. My wife had T-Mobil/Voicestream and Nextel's coverage is 200% better than what she had with them. Now I have 2 phones on Nextel and I'm very happy with their service. Although hopefully with Verizon and Sprint coming out with walkie-talkie features, it will force Nextel's prices down a little bit

i have verizon and i was thinking about switching to nextel when my plan runs out since the 2 way would come in handy alot but now since i hear verizon is going to have a 2 way i might as well just buy a nice verizon 2 way flip phone/plan since my verizon plan is awsome compared to my freinds with nextel who never have service

I've had it for about 2 weeks now and I think it is pretty much a POS. I get cut off all time or a lot of times I go to call one of our sales reps it is "out of service".

Doug, the kicker is when you drive past the Nextel office building on 53, just north of Thorndale..it never fails, I always drop a call.

Yeah it started about 2 months back. It is $.10 a minute to the person who intiates the call. It is $10 a month for coast to coast unlimited 2 way. After the first month I bumped up to the unlimited cause $.10 a minute adds up quick. I got nailed for $30 the first month.

I'll ask my bud when he signs on tonight, he works for Verizon..;)

that would be extremely nice if it did tho.. Hopefully...

If it is then i will probably be asking how long before our contract with At&t is for.. and switching to Verizon. Plus my friend will hook me up with nice rates..:D I think he is a manager for the store, he's worked there for 5 years.

I don't know for sure but from a business standpoint why would nextel want to make them compatible. They want you to sign up for there service to get there features. Until know they were the only one offering two way. If they made the systems compatible it would be like them saying go ahead and get another companies service and you can have all the benefits of our service. I think it is nice that these other companies are now offering 2 way but Nextel has the market for it. I know in my business everybody has them so for a few extra dollars a month compared to another company wouldn't make sense. The only complaint that I ever had with nextel is lets make the phones a little cheaper they really hammer you for them.

My family company has something like 30 Nextels. Only the foreman and office has them, but if the guys in the field wanna buy their own nextel or Boost phone, they can link up with the compamy Nextels and everyone stays in touch.

My uncle kinda digs that because he can give the Nextels only to his top guys and all the helpers and laborers tie into the company numbers, and it doesn't cost him anything, and everyone is in touch.

works pretty good.

To back up what Noreaster said, I don't think it would be a beneficial business move to allow other companies to be compatible with Nextel. If they did, they may as well combine under one company name, because they are going to be arguing over who gets how much of the customers monthly bill. For example, Verizon provides your service, but you talk to someone on a Nextel. Obviously, Verizon is going to want their money, but now Nextel is going to jump up and say "wait, we want money too, you were connecting into our system". Nextel did have the 2-way market for quite some time, but their patent ran out on that feature during the summer, and the other cellular providers were able to get into the market.
