Houser makes long travel a arms for 16 inch shocks.

the lts for 16" shocks do offer a little more travel and lower ride height. thats about it. they dont give much difference over reg aftermarket arms

why not just use 300ex shocks then

the problem with running the lt arms with the shorter shocks is this. The Lt arms are designed to where when the shock bottoms the frame is about 1.5 inches off the ground(or they should be anyway). Reg a arms are designed the same way. If you put the shorter shocks on the lt they have a shorter compressed length and your frame will slam into the ground before your shocks reach their min length at compression. You could get away with this on flat tracking but there are some pretty big hits in XC and many XC courses include a MX section. landing off a Mx jump would dig your frame hard into the dirt.

you also might start breaking ball joints if the shocks are compressing further then the a arms were designed for.

True. if the shocks get short enough to let the ball joints reach the bind point they will snap, bend the arm, or bend the shock shaft.

Why not just use a proper set up for xc
