Does anyone know of an ignition system that can advance timing on a 400ex up to 12degrees beyond stock.

Wolf Cdi, Vortex Cdi, and Dyna can all be programmed for anything but you need a programing kit, that usually costs extra. All these units go for $300+

I know that Duncan Racing has a product for the 250r that holds the counterbalance bearing and the timing trigger, and they made it so the timing is adjustable. It obviously can't be used for the 400EX, but the CONCEPT might, perhaps somebody else makes it. (I haven't been able to find it)

Combine a product like that with the Sparks advanced timing key, and I bet you could find your 12 degrees.

Couldn't you just move the timing chain one tooth on the sprocket? I have heard of someone doing that on an old honda 300 4X4.

yes you can just move the cam forward one tooth, but with an advanced timing you will run hotter.

why would you want to advance it that far. Sparks sells an advance key +6 degrees. I had it in for awhile it worked nice. Now I got Msd Ignition on know and thats the SH$T! You can adjust the rev limiter to whatever you want, Advance the timing up to 7 degrees, High speed retard, holeshot rev limiter. Multiple spark up to 3,000rpm, and twice as much spark as stock (over30,000 volts)

Valve timing is different than ignition timing. The trigger thing would be the same as an advance key. It would advance base timing, but I don't think it would affect the curve. I think you would have to modify the CDI. Someone needs to make an advance module that would just plug in before (or after?) the CDI to alter the curve. Don't we have a couple of elecrical engineers on this site? Wilkin250R?

ya I found the msd today and ordered one up. The reason for so much timing is cause this bike runs on alky w/%20 nitromethan it requires a crap load of timing to run at peak. Thanks

Yeah that should work really sweet for ya. PM me when you get it on I'd like to hear how it works for ya especially on your bike. You wont be disappointed. With mine just being mostly stock it helped a bunch.
