What do you guys think? Would it cost more money to build an R from the frame up? Thanx for input

I think it would be cheaper to buy a semi-modded one and them mod it out more:)

Ya I was thinking about that too, buy one thats almost stock and mod it out. Or maybe if I found a good deal on a rolling chassis, that would be a good way to go. But how much more do you think it would cost if i went from the frame up? First Id find a nice frame, then stock a-arms, spindles, brakes, aftermarket shocks, then a steering stem, swingarm, linkage, axle , carrier, hubs, rims tires, If i found good deals on this maybe it would be too bad. Lets say I have a budget of around 4000-4500, waht do you think?

Build it from the ground up, that way you can build it how you want it. Then it should be ready by spring, with all nice parts :)

I know thats what I am doing. But all the parts are from one guy, I just have to put them together.

Ya, thats why I want to do it, it will be the way I want it. But im just wondering how much more money its gonna cost. It might not be a big difference, do you think it would be? Thanx for all your help so far guys:devil:

It will be quite a bit cheaper to buy an R than to build one from the ground. Quite often you can see a nice quad that has over $12,000 invested selling for $7000. The only drawbacks are:

It may not be exactly the type you are looking for. It may have orange plastics, but you prefer white, or set up for MX but you race XC.

Also, you need to come up with the whole $7000 up front, instead of spreading that cost out over a few years in mods.

It depends on how long you are willing to wait, and how picky you are about the details. But I would definitly say that buying a good quad is much cheaper than building one.

I would definately build your own, if you can! I would have loved to build my own 400ex, but I didn't have the funds and I got an awsome deal on mine. :D Good luck!

i bought my bone stock 250r for $2,100...

ive put around $2,500-$3,000 into modding it...

thats around $4,500-$5,000 and i love the way it turned out... all i really need now is just a swingarm... i have elka shocks, laeger aarms, lrd exhuast, motor work, lsr axle/carrier, all the aftermarket goodies blahblah... you just need to find deals on parts, and you can build a sweet 250r for around 5g, depending on how much you buy it for. if you wanna see some pics of my R just IM me at tants250r

like racerX said, its been like christmas for me also for the past several months of 250R parts:devil:

I would find a nice stocker and tear it apart and build it the way you want. Where is the fun in just going out and buying one already built?

id say build it since you will like the experience and since you can make it how ever you desire:D

If you have the money, building one certainly is a lot of fun, but do you really have the money?

I've got $7000 into mine, and I'd be lucky to get $3500 for it. I've got another $4000 that I want to put into it, and when that is done, I might be able to sell it for $6000. $11,000 in, $6000 out.

Go ahead and ask me, I'll tell you. Yes, it's fun putting it together, but to tell you the truth, it's not $5000 worth of fun. I would rather have just bought one, but it's too late now.

Id have around 4500 to build it, but while im building it Id still have money coming in, so i would probably end up spending 5000 on it. If I found good deals on parts do you think I could build a nice one with 4500-5000? I still kinda think I should just wait and by one tho, but waht do you guys think?

If you have $4500 in cash, then buy one. You can buy one MUCH nicer than you can build it.

Well I just bought my R for $1500. It has an LRD265, totally updated motor. Its comin with a RPM axle, laeger swinger, brand new razr's, few other extra parts. All it needs is stock sized gas tank, thumb throttle and a few bearings here and there, and then it will be good to go.
I think I got an ok deal

But Its getting a total over haul with a TEAM FIBE look, Maybe some burgard or JRD LT a-arms, ELKA's or AXIS. :)

Then in a few years if the 2-smoke cant handle the thumpers PRD chassis with a CRF450 or YZF426 motor in her. :blah:

Sounds like a sweet deal man. Post some pics of her.
