I have a 4.3L 96 S-10. Almost 200hp and i have never got under 20mpg. Even when taking my quad to the coast. :p

But if you want to lower it.......eh.... I dunno about the v6 on 2 wheel driver versions. Girls like bigger trucks anyways. :macho

get a freekin dakota with a v8, theres no other choice. its the only mid-size truck available with that big of an engine. second i would go with the 4.3 s-10

i didn't realize you could get a v-8 in the dakota. i might go with that instead. i know bigger trucks are better but i need this to be a daily driver that gets good gas mileage. my '72 is my manly hot rod truck.

the 4.3's do have good power (190hp) and decent miledge (my friend gets about 20) but i would definately stick with a v8, im cursed with a 2.8 v6 that gm made for a few years in the 80's that has about 120 hp and gets about 13 mpg. I think for the power and reliability I will always get a v8 truck for the rest of my life. But if you arent ever gonna haul anything too big and you are easy on the truck I would go with an s-10.

I am a chevy fan, but I loved my dakota when I had it. It had a ton of power for just a lil six cylinder.

our ranger sucks ***, it burns out a clutch every 1.5 years, gets horrible milage, and is a 4 cylinder- we change the plugs/plug wires every year, and change the oil and air filter more often then recconended. also we have had bad luck with the radiator and the radiator hoses leaking alot. we also have had problems with the electronics. it only had 75 k on it and we have had it i think 3 years??? i don't know what year but it is the same body style as like the 96's and 97's and all years around there. mabee we just got one that had the piss beat out of it:confused:

sorry but i don't have an pics of my '72 that are recent. i don't want a truck to haul crap really. i just need a truck thats gets good gas mileage that i can make a sport truck kinda. i might sometimes haul my quad around, but my friend has a diesel that we usually leave the hauling to. there is no way i will ever own a 4 banger so thats out of the picture. i'm still undecided in what to do. i like the s-10 cause its a chevy and you can do alot to them in the fact of customizing which i like to do. but then again i like the look of the dakota and the fact you can get a big motor in them. in more info or even pics would be nice. thanks.

im getting a truck, im getting the Dodge Dakota Quad cab 4x4 5spd. The quad cab isnt nessisary but i will definitly have extended. the reason i picked this truck was because of the space inside, i want to beable to go out with friends and still beable to haul my quad around.

now my dad has an F-150 v6. he'll never get a V-6 again, its actually his first one. he bought the v-6 fot better gas millage but he thinks the motor doesnt have enough power to actully pull the truck without straining, so he thinks even tho the v-8 is burning a little more gas it wont be working so hard to pull the damn thing.

makes sence when u really think about it

but yea get a dakota

my mom had a conversion van with a v6 for about a month a few years ago. it actually got worse miledge then the v8 because it struggled so badly

but with a truck that small i don't see how a v-6 could be that bad as long as you don't pull trailors and stuff. the most i would ever haul, and its a maybe is my quad.

Did I read truck with good mpg? since when do trucks get good mpg? wait for the Eaton hybred truck engine, it'll be a while. in development, with our tax dollars.
The only somewhat good mpg truck is a rice burner. but I not going there being from MI

I'm a ford man but,

I bought a 99 ranger 4x4 with the 4.oL new and it was gutless and only got about 15-18mpg.

Then i bought a new 01 f150 2wd with the 5.4L halls balls and still gets 17-20 mpg. Not to mention it has a lot more room.

But for a small truck i would try the dakota the newer ones beds are big enough to fit a 400ex in them with out too much trouble.

Ranger

I have a '92 with the 4.0 and have personally put on roughly 25k miles. I haven't had to replace anything really. I always haul my boat around, or have my quad in the back, and it has plenty of power. That 4.0 is very torquey. My truck seemed to have more power than my friends S-10 w/ the 4.3 and his was 2wd, while mine is a 4x4, lifted, with big 31x10.5 mud tires. Anyway, it has been very reliable, and fun to drive both on and off road. I still like the newer Rangers, but Dakotas are also decent. I don't like S-10's... Forgot to add that I get roughly 16-19 MPG, not bad considering the tires I'm running.

well since my truck now only gets 10 to 12 mpg anything above it is good.

i am looking at buying a fj-40 lancruiser i have seen them preform and they have better 4wd than old cj jeeps! and the are pretty good gas mileage cause they have a hi/lo transfer case and they look as kool as heck........with the removable hardtop and the side to side seats not the stright across bench......:D

Butters

yeah i thought about a jeep at one time. but i would want to raise it and put big tires but then that cuts on mileage. i'm not really a fan of the landcruiser, but my friends brother has one and it is one tuff mutha.

My dad was looking at new trucks but he was looking in the fullsize lineup. He picked out a GMC Sierra with a trailoring package. The truck has a 4.3 V8 in it and it gets better MPG then the same version of the truck with the V6. So the body size to engine power ratio there proved to be good.

The truck I want on the other hand, is a Chevy S10 ZR2. I rode in one a few months back, it was lifted and had dual exhaust. I was having so much fun.
