it will be the closest it has ever been in like 500 years or sumthin on the 27th. I was in the city tonight, and it was the only star/planet i could see in the sky because of the lights. Thats one bright mofo :macho

Some old dude on some late night show said it was supposed to look a little smaller than the moon when it's at it's closest and that you would be able to see dust storms and crap w/ binoculars. He also said it only happens once every 600million years or something.

This guy was pretty old so I believe what he says... he prolly saw it the last time it happened.

lol, i think i saw the same old guy, but it was on the new tom green show, in the eastern time zone, at 5:51 A.M you will see mars the closest it has ever been in 6,000 years:eek2:

With a 75X telescope it would be the same size as the full moon, veiwed with the naked eye. So with my 27X binos it should be nearly 1/3 the size of the full moon:D

i learned a lot more in summer school than my stupid regular school.

All of jupiters moons are way too far away for the sun to even penitrate the surface and make it over 0. Except for Io. Because of jupiters gravity, it causes Io's plates to move rapidly, making it into an egg shape, expanding and letting go constantly. It has a surface temperature of around 3000+ degrees, in the cool spots. It is composed entirely of funny *** gases like mercury, methane and co2, NO OXYGEN! It is the only moon to still be active with volcano's in over 10 billion years, besides the earth, which is sometimes still active on the surface. Since there are no meteorite crashes on its surface, scientists can conclude it may have once been a part of jupiter itself. Voyager II has found that jupiters crust, is identical to Io's. It is also possible that our moon, was part of earth. In the pre-cambrien period, all the land was only on one side of the earth, and at this time, a few million years have passed, meaning that in that time, gravity would of had to spread out the land evenly amongst the earth. Since it was all on one side, and there isnt anything on the other side, there must have been a part of earth that had been broken off. The reason the land was spread out like it is now, into pieced-out land formations like a puzzle, is because there was a SUDDEN un-even dissappearance in land. Making the other land that was left (which is here today), spread out over the earth evenly because of gravity. Therefore, earth was actually twice as large billions of years ago. An astroid, or possible another planet collided with it, shredding land away. Over time, an atmosphere was formed. So I bet the moon was once with EARTH.

I'm probably giving headaches to people lol.. im not very smart, but that summer school is a lot better than regular school!

I will be looking at mars tonight and tomorrow :)

Styx, excellent observations. See, school does teach you something.;) Very interesting, makes you feel rather small in the larger scheme of things doesn't it?

my therapist told me i had mono because i was thinking too much about astronomy, like.. "we are all on a large rock. the sun will only last for so long, all life will perish. but thats will all happen in 10 billion years, you dont need to worry about that!" but i worry about the future, because i want to know what will happen :o the idea that we are all on a large rock, is freaky. imagine we had to atmosphere, technically, we would be in space. the idea that a black hole (which isnt black at all, because light cannot escape, it shows no color, or anything!), 1 cubic CM of "black hole material" weighs 10 billion tons. thats how much gravity it packs together. im getting a headache.

Well, I looked tonight, it looks like a bright orange star . So I go get the binoculars, then it looked like a bigger bright orange star.
So I got to thinking, does it really matter? closest in 6 years, 6000 years, 6 ka-jillion years. What difference will it make how close it is, it is bright right now, then it will fade away. Does it even matter? Something to talk about I guess.
