i think i need a new head cover gasket but im not sure, does anybody know what its suppose to look like, and also what are the torque specs it

do you mean valve cover or head gasket? if its the valve cover gasket your reffering to, ex's dont have them, they use some kind of silcon sealer on the mating sufaces instead of an actual paper gasket.
just ask your honda dealer for it.

I think the 400 has one, doesn't it?
I know the 300ex doesn't.

I think valve cover gasket it metal. If you have lost compression you might try a new head gasket.

cylinder head cover gasket is on the 400ex. Its #3 in this picture. Is this what your talking about?Click on cylinder head cover (http://www.servicehonda.com/hard%20parts/atv/trx400ex/trx400ex%20frames%20page.htm)

yea the 400 does have one i know it needs a new one because oil is leaking out of it now
