Hi guys,

Hope this is in the correct section...

Anyhow, How do you install the AN-6 fittings onto the stainless braided line? I am doing the Jegs oil cooler and have never dealt with any of this stuff before.

The line came with the ends taped up, I assume to prevent raveling. Do I remove this? Will it all come un-done if I do?? Sorry, I know this is really a lame post, but, I just don't know how to do this.

BTW...all my fittings are threaded if that helps, I don't believe they are push on...

Help please...

Glamis

Unscrew the fitting, take the part that goes over the line (hose) and with a twisting motion it will thread itself on to the hose. Once you have that piece on the hose take the cone shaped end of the other half of the fitting and insert it in the hose. You will have to push and turn it so it catch the threads on the other half of the fitting that is on the hose already. Once you have caught the threads get your wrench's and tighten the fitting. It is handy to have a vice to hold on to the hose or the fitting but make sure you use somthing to protect the fitting. I use gunsmithing rubber vice jaws. Hope this helps.

Boy, I must really be a moron..:( I cannot for the life of me get it to thread itself on. I am just boogering up the braid on the end and inside the fitting as well. The soft aluminum is grinding away due to my twisting efforts.

I tried to cut a new end and start new, but cant even do that. It just squishes the hose and flares it out even worse..

How in the heck do you cut it clean???

I am really at a loss here...It can't be that hard ...can it??:ermm:

I like to put the fitting in the vice to hold it. Then kind of wiggle the hose inside the flare of the fitting and twist hose into fitting. I do it countrclockwise usually.http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid75/pd0618c9f918463682159454d7c5d6f60/fb4ddd3a.jpg

Once you have it twisted on to hose making sure hose is to top of fitting but not to where it starts to pinch or deform the hose. Put in the other half of your fitting. It help to put it in vice like this. Push down and turn with wrench untill you catch threads.http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid75/pca4d0e5f44d189a7d7a2109fc1bb4bb2/fb4ddd1e.jpg

I have a special cutting tool to cut braided line. You can use a hack saw or die grinder with a cut off wheel. Tape the line where you want to cut it to keep it from unraveling. If you get pieces of the wire "frizzing" out trim it with dikes. Remove the tape from the braided line before trying to put the fitting on. When you put the line in try to fit it in the fitting brfore you start twisting it in. Once you have the line inside the flare it should twist into the fitting with you pushing into the fitting. Hope this helps they can be a pain but the more you do the easier it gets.

Hey Glamis, I just did this myself and you are right its unreal how hard it is.

This is what I did and it helped alot. ..
( ...if the braided starts to unreveal cut it just like mentioned above... tape it with electrical tape, and then cut it with a sawzaw.)

The opening on the fitting where the -6 goes... use a little cone shaped grinding wheel... gring that opening more open... id say like 1/16".

Now tighten the braided hose into a vise pointing up. Carefull not to tighten the hose alot because it will leave a mark. Put the grinded fitting on it and tap it with a hammer.

either way ya get the fittings on is cool, but grinding it open more helps ALOT.

Wooohoo...:D I got it on. Oldsandman and Nakomiso are the bomb.

I took a 4inch grinder and cut a new end. Left the tape on, I aasume that's ok since the oil will never touch it, and twisted that SOB on. The counterclockwise did the trick, Clockwise was getting me nowhere fast.

I pushed it in far enough that it bottomed out in the fitting, and then got 2 wrenches and cranked on it. Seems to be OK.

Thanks guys, you really helped me out here...:D

Old sandman you did one he*l of a job explaining that process with the pictures, I was impressed. I would try to explain it because i run the braided line also, but I don't think I can explain it as good as you.:)

Thanks! Technology can be pretty cool at times!:) I thought that would be a good way to show how I do fittings, pictures can be better than words. Thanks again!
