Ok, heres the deal: I have a 250ex with a pipe and 20" tires.I also have 22" tires. My problem is, with the 20" tires on, I hit the rev limiter pretty bad. Now, is rectifier limiter just another name for rev limiter? I was looking at a diagram and there wasnt a rev limiter but there was a rectifier limiter. Same with the 400ex's diagram. SO, what i was wondering, is if I could use a 400ex rectifier limiter so the egine could rev more, but would it let it rev too high. Im not sure. By looking at the diagram it looked liked it would plug into the 250. I could really use your help guys cause this is gettin on my nerves. Also, does anyone know how high the 400 and 250 are allowed to rev stock? Thanks.

Just to let you know, I have a WB rev box on my 440, so I tried to put the stock one on my wifes piped 250 ex, it plugs right in and the motor will crank but wont spark. It was worth a try to me cause it was just laying around, but it didnt work.

Change your sprocket up front, it only costs like $12. Your stock 250 isnt going to want to Rev much higher than it is already, now if you get a cam, exhaust, etc... then the rev limiter would be worth it. Just my $.02

Not to Flame you but there is no sprocket on a 250ex its shaft drive and you cant change the gearing.

i know for a fact that the 250 revs out to 8750 rpm. i thought the 400 revs out to somewhere in the low 9's, but am not sure.

What if I tottaly unplugged the limiter? Would it rev too high? Is it even possible?

Do you meen the spark plug wasnt giving the engine enough spark?

the way the rev limiter is configured, if you took it out, the quad would not run.

I had the same frustration with my wife's 250ex. It runs 20" paddles for the sand and bumps the limiter bad. Actually, you can run a 400 cdi on one by swithcing the black/red stripe and black/white stripe wires on the 2 pin plug. It does let it rev a little bit higher, although it still bumped the limiter from time to time, so I would agree with ryanh250 about the 8750. The stock 400cdi is 9300.
One bit of caution though, it bypasses the neutral switch when you do this! So the bike will start in gear. I eventually put the stock cdi back on the 250.

If i just used it for races would I be good? This wont blow the engine or anything will it if I ride really aggressively? Thanks.

hmm. i seriously contemplate with the mods you have if the higher rev limiter would do you any good.

now, i know i still have a stock filter/airbox (and quite possibly jetting that's a little off on the main), but i do have a full exhaust, and it is from my experience that i say that a higher rpm limit will be next to useless. maybe a modified airbox and a aftermarket air filter changes this, but i know when i ride my 250, the top end power is non existant. i dont use a tach, but if so, i'd say i shift at no later than 7000 rpms.... and by then you feel the motor really starting to whine.granted, when i ride with the intent of racing, i shift a bit later, but NEVER do i hit the rev limiter......

i guess i understand with 20 inch tires or a really modified motor with 22's does it really help, to gain that extra little speed in each gear.but i feel that the 250's power is long gone by that point.

somebody with deep pockets should dyno their 250 and get the results, i'd like to see where the peak HP is made.
