MInes been lightened. It revs faster and doesn't tend to bog down goin up hills or thru turns as bad.

Pappy how much are you asking for the fly wheel? Or do you know yet?

By the way, what is the main reason for lighting the fly wheel? Just to get more RPM's? theres got to be a down fall in lighting the fly wheel or honda would have never made it the weight they did...right?

Would a lightened flywheel benefit the 300ex's as well?

pros to lightening the flywheel would be better acceleration the motor will rev quicker but the cons would be the motor would be easier to stall at low rpms because your taking away the rotating mass from the flywheel in other words i don't think you would be able to lug the motor as much as before, just my observation:confused2

It's easier to stall a 400ex with a lighter flywheel that would probalbly be the reason. But if ya keep the hammer down ya won't stall it....

hey scott lightening a flywheel would be benificial on just bout any motor i would think, call this number 270-259-9604 and talk to them and see if they even do a 300ex i just got off the phone with them a little bit ago they'll do mine for 80 bucks that's rocky ridge racing out of kentucky they did and awesome job on my carb so i would definantly recomend them

Hey thanks Jason. Might have to add that to the winter project list myself. What did it cost for the carb? That's another one I've been thinking about. Either that or a 400ex carb?:ermm:

Some poeple Ive talked to said it makes it feel more like a two srtoke, it revs way faster, but stalls at low RPM's a little, but if you have a stage 2 hotcam and exhaust for mid/top end, then a lightened flywheel would be a good combo, I wouldnt do it on a stock motor or a motor thats going to be used for trail riding.

hmm... may be sound advice. I do tend to lug mine down a lot. The loss of mass would take away from low end power, right? Wouldn't that also be true for using a lighter weight stock bore piston? More top end but with a sacrifice in the bottem end? Just a thought.

For racing XC would this be a good mod for the 400 or not?

LIghtening the flywheel means ya gota clutch it more. A strong clutch basket and 8 plate setup match the lightened flywheel perfect...but like i said,,you'll have to clutch it more. But you'll get the revs up much faster. It's great on a MX track,,which is the reason i had mine done.

Rico what brand of clutch do you have in your EX? I got the Barnett in mine but im not sure if I like it yet. Man, Im curious if a lighter fly wheel will help my Ex at the dunes... Im just going to half to get one and find out. :D
