How much of a loss of power will i notice once i desleeve the CRF450 to a 440? My dad and I are planning on building a CRF this winter and he doesnt see the point of having me wanting more power from a 400ex, buying a CRF450, and desleeving it to a 440. He thinks thats rediculous to buy a more stronger and powerful motor and then tear into it and make it somewhat slower. I told him this motor( even when a 440) will still have so much more sack than my 400ex it will be worth the money. How much would this even cost to sleeve it down from a 450 to a 440? I eventually want to start racing nationals so this option is in the back of my mind. Could someone plz explain the power gains and losses from a 450 to a 440 in a way where my dad might be more persueded to begin our project? thanks. any info will be greatly appreciated.

It was announced a while back. I'm not sure where it is written officially, but I'm sure it's on the AMA website. A 450 will definately be legal though.

It cost 1800.00 from baldwin to have it destroked and ported and polished, my 450 is destroked, high comp piston and cam all done by tc and it has more power than a stock one.

Considering your EX isnt worth much anymore, I think it would still be cheaper to put a CRF450 in your quad. Especialy if you alredy have socks, a-arms and other goodies on their.

Is the 2 stroke limit being moved up too? it should be moved to 270 if 4 strokes are being moved up.

None of this has been done yet. The meeting for the rule changes will not be until the 1st weekend in Oct. What will happen at that meeting of all the ATV rep from all of the AMA/ATVA district in the US is just a guess on some peoples part. I would wait though. The limit on the 4-stroke class might be (again might be) moved to 450 from 440cc. There are some other changes that have been presented about what to do with the 2-strokes if they are riden with the 4-strokes. I will not get into the ones that I presented and the ones that I have heard form other people, because they are just ideas at the present time.

Again nothing has been done about a change for next year till the 1st weekend in Oct.
