Ok, here goes. Two of my riding buddies (one with a REALLY modded Blaster and one with a lt250r) want to sell their quads and both buy 2002 brand new Banshees. We ride all kind of terrian and I was just wondering how my 440 would hold up? I would same I'm a pretty good rider, but atleast on of these guys is real good. P.S., I STILL haven't gotten the 440 together! I got the wrong rings and the ring gap is 3x the size it should be so I don't know what it will run like when its all done. You guys got any idea what kind of power I will have, and how it will compare to my quad now which only has the K&N and the Supertrapp? Thanks

if u get the 10:8:1 comp 440 piston, lectron carb, pipe, jetted correct, new 11:1 tc racing cam, rev box, u will be able to hold fine, unless they really mod the banshees, tell the one wit the lt, t is a sweet bike, id keep it

I think you will keep up but not beat them. You need a cam to beat them.

Don't buy the revbox.

if i do a cam, I want a cheap drop in. No hard facing. Will the xr400 cam make the difference? How much are they? Or are there any other cams that would meet my specs?

The xr cam would work, but for drop in's and not wantign to spend too much money, look into tc cams. I've heard that they are very good and under $200.

Yeah get a TC Cam. The TC XC Cam is $179 and the TC MX Cam is $205. You will have a better gain if you put in a Cam. You can order TC Parts from Rocky Ridge Racing if you don`t want to order from TC.

they are drop in with no extra work??? I though everything except the xr400 and hrc required hardfacing the rockers and stiffer valve spring.

Dave400ex

Yes, they are both Drop-Ins. If your 400EX is older then you may want to get the Rockers Hardfaced. Just call TC and ask Tom. He will tell you everything you want to know, and more.

anyone have a phone number for tc? Also, will i be able to keep up with the banshees the without the cam? Thats all I want. I dont need to be faster, just competitive.

01-25-2002, 09:00 PM
watz wrong wit the black box, mi 440 runs sweet, nd it has one?

The number is 814-723-3514. I`m not sure if you will be able to keep up with a Banshee or not. The Cam will just help complete your Motor Setup.

Dave400ex

Marcum`s has the best price on the XR400 Cam. I think it`s around $120. Rico could tell you the exact price.

I think thats what I'll probably do. I am in no hurry though because I dont think they're getting their banshees for a few months. Besides, its not a bad job to put a cam in (2 hrs.) Thanks for all your help so far. Keep it coming.:D

LMFAO keep up the good work on the 440 joe. lookin forward to racin ya next year. TIP: you may want to look into buying an AC mudscreen bumper and maybe a chest protector (so it dont look like mine last year) http://www.plauder-smilies.com/happy/wink.gif lmao. yeah i should have the shee in the spring sometime. you should ask these guys what else you can get for your quad cuz i wouldnt count on a stock shee for very long. lol good luck wit the 440.

It's all about how fast you wanna go. A IMS 12.5:1, ported, XR400 cammed, DMC'd 440 will put the hurt on stock Banshee's. Put some pipes on a Banshee this combo may not work. If you want to beat piped Banshee's get the wallet out. 300' et's will back this up.

I have two friends with these bikes. One has a 2001 400EX with a I.M.S. 440 kit and an XR cam and the other has a 2000 Banshee with S.S.T. pipes. In sand drags, the Banshee kills the 400EX. However my 400EX friend is putting in a GT Thunder cam, a 39mm FCR and a Sparks X-6 exhaust next week. I'm sure he'll be much more competetive after that. As for keeping up, he has no problems keeping up with the Banshee or my piped Raptor in the dunes.

hey RAPTORAZ, if the xr400 cam is in real good condition, I might be interested in buying it off him if I could get it cheap enough. Let me know. Thanks

Joe why dont you look into some gearing changes. it seems to be the cheapest way to get some speed. i think your 440 can handle the low end loss.

my banshee that is bone stock will beat a piped bored out and reed caged 250r,,, that same 250r will rape my 400 like an ape....ive only ran the 400 against the shee once and i think the shee beat it in top speed in 4th gear,,, it has 6...but yes you could keep up anywhere but on the road, a stock 400 could keep up, its the way banshees are......but the shee will smoke you in a drag cam or no cam

The guy from ORR Motorsports just got done putting in a Stock Bore High Compression Piston and Cam on a 400EX. He said it was a Torque Monster. I would get a Cam. It will help your Motor Package out a lot.

i need a sport quad i need one!!!!!

the recon just aint holdin up with you guys.

i don't think i can buy the blaster until around early / mid march.

my dad is being wierd about the $3400 he thinks it's too much. i can't get anything besides a 400 and it will take forever to get it as modded as joe's and u guys are getting banshees. i'd like a 250r but you know my dad. he thinks they're too old. he wants everything good but he can't get it. he wants a new quad cheap and something that i would want.

TrengaBlaster3
01-26-2002, 11:14 PM
Well if you can get your dad to go for the $3400, i am not in a rush to sell it. i dont understand why thats a problem when you claim to have 3500-4000 to spend. my quad will keep up wit the 440 and thats not a selling point thats a challenge joe. soon as you get it done im waitin.:devil

01-28-2002, 11:31 AM
Get the XRcam from marcums,,$130 to your door,,and if ya wanna beat the banshee's get them anywere but a drag race or dunes,,,you've already won and you don't know it, if your gonna drag race all the time get a dragster or funny car. The cam will make a world of difference a must for thumpers.

Rico, is your 416 broke in yet? Have you ever ridden Chris29`s TC 416EX? It sounds like it would rip.

01-29-2002, 09:44 AM
MInes broke in and was on the mx track this weekend for the first time in months,,,,yeah I have rode chris29's 416 and it absolutely kicks butt,,it never quits pullin a real monstor to say the least.

Dave400ex
01-29-2002, 02:17 PM
I would like to ride a 416 before I bought a Piston and Cam. Nobody around here has a 416. I would love to see Chris29`s run. He has all the Mods done to his Motor you can. I`m sure it costed a lot to Build his Motor though. Some day I want to have all the Mods you guys do.

01-29-2002, 08:11 PM
it is gonna take alot more than those mods to even think about touching a shee.

yup so now we should all sell our 400ex's so we can keep up with you in a strait line:o

A TC racing national 416 motor will touch a shee with no problems even in a drag race..it would eat it alive out of the hole.

If we wanted to do 70+ MPH we would of got a Quadzilla. I don`t care about Top Speed though. It`s going to take a lot more than Pipes for a Banshee to touch a 400EX on the MX Track.

I was thinking the same thing, but I had to say something. Just be happy we all have Awesome Quads.

The best solution, if possible, is to have them both :D I really like both quads - the shee & the 400ex. They both have their high points. As for top speed between mine, the 400ex won't touch the shee but I do a lot more then ride wide open in straight lines so top speed isn't everything. ;)

ye, you need to have alot of time on them both to really compare

i dont know why everyone says banshees dont handle good....im guessing that most of the people who say this have never ridden a banshee...or maybe just around the yard.....
it seems like if someone says something is good\bad on this forum, everyone else believes it and passes it on as a fact.. example
416 revs faster than a 440......
banshees cant turn, they blow up too easy..
dont buy this swingarm\pipe\plastic(maier)

maybe ive just been here too long to notice it.....
