My parents are wanting to go to the U.P. of Michigan in Sept or Oct. Where can they ride up there? They just ride 4X4's so they don't want to go to any tracks. Maybe state parks. They have already been to Silver Lake.

Check out Michigan's DNR website. There are quite a few trails up there. I had a friend who rode in the UP last summer and said it was awesome. Lots of mud! We were supposed to go up this summer but it doesn't look like it is going to work out.

I was just up there a couple of weeks ago, in the whitefish pt. and paradise area. Basically up there you can ride ALMOST any dirt road you want as well as any trail you come across as long as your not on private property. When I was there I rode the snowmobile trails in that area. If you've never ridden up the before MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A MAP AND A COMPASS!! I my self have a detailed map of the eastern u.p. that shows all major highways, forest roads, lakes, rivers, cities, towns and even some two tracks!! I picked it up at alocal gas station in brimley. I been riding up there the past few years on snowmobile, so I knew where I was going on the snowmobile trails and didn't need a map. Another map that will be handy is a snomobile map of that area. The trails can be confusing sometimes. Also, MAKE SURE YOU CARRY EXTRA GAS WITH YOU! The gas stations are VERY few and far between! I had a great time when I was there, it kinda' neat to ride the same trials I ride during the winter time. There are also alot of marshy areas as well, so yes, it can get quite muddy. Some trails may not even be passable during the summer time, due to the wet areas. That's my two cents. I've got some pics from my trip, I'll try to post them later tonight.
