Hey, I have a 400ex that is jetted and has a pipe, k&n and stock size razrs. I race xc and in the trails and hills 1rst gear is slow (revs high) and 2nd gear is to fast ( bogs out). I was wondering what I should do with the gearing, front and rear sprocket. I don't plan on doing any engine work. Thanks Ryan

You could try a 14 tooth sprocket. Then you might be able to pull second gear in the woods. First gear will rev out even faster now though. Or you could drop a tooth or two on the rear sprocket to make first gear a little faster, I say this because fitting a 16 tooth sprocket on the 400ex is difficult. I would try the 14 tooth sprocket first and see if you can pull second in the woods. Front sprockets are cheaper and plus you'll be going faster if you can pull second gear.

i have stock gearing and its gr8 for woods racing, i have it mostly in 3rd and 4th gear haulin *****, it so much fun lol, srry to get off topic

3rd and 4th? The woods in FLA, must be very open. Where I live, you would be lucky to get it in 3rd. I ordered my 14 tooth, i hope that gives me a little better gearing for woods XC. It seems to be what everyone is running in NH.

here i run 14t front and 39t rear, and my bike does great i can beat modded raptors and hang with banshees in the drags down a tlittle sahara and im not even close to revving it out in 5th, 1st gear revs out really fast with 14/39 but i can hold 2nd and 3rd really good.

Thanks for the replies, I was thinking, could it be bogging out because of too rich of a fuel mixture. I'm not sure to do because if 1rst is too low then on the start I will have to shift too soon and loose time.

I am running a 15/39 and love it. I can actually use my first gear and still able to climb hills in second gear.

what are all of your mods and what jetting you at dirtrider? full throttle performance is the mainjet. 1/4 to 3/4 throttle is the needle and idle to 1/4 throttle is pilot jet/fuel skrew.

I'm not sure about the needle because I got the K&N performance kit and it told which needle to use. But do most of you guys run stock or what?
