The 88/89 center tube is one piece and the 86/87 is split and uses the spacer that is also part of the rear engine mount. The 88 is shorter than the 96 swingarm. What year frame are you putting the swingarm in. If you are putting a 88 swingarm into a 86/87 frame the only engine mounts that you will have are the 2 lower engine mount plus the one on top of the head. You will lose the the one at the rear of the engine.

Fingers hit the wrong key 96 instead of 86. You will lose the 2 motor mounts at the back of the engine. On the 86 there is a piece /spacer that fits between the 2 ends of the swingarm pivot points and then attachs to the rear of the engine. This is how they get the rear engine mount for the 86 and 87 frames. On the 88 and 89 frames there is a brace welded into the frame and the swingarm is solid at the front. If you look at the swingarms you will know what I am talking about. The rear linkage for the shock is different . The 86 uses a long "dogbone and the 88 is shorter. the wishbone (front piece is the same).

I thnk that you will need the short dogbone (linkage). You can buy the adjustable one from James Lucky or some place else cheaper than getting one from Honda. But you will need the bushing and seals from the old linkage to make it work in the new short one.

You WILL care when the motor slides back because it has only 2 motor mounts and the swingarm rubs a hole in the cases.

ALso, if you try the wrong linkage the ride heigth will be way too low.
