Anyone ever trick out an Astro??

well ive been wantin a chevy astro for a while...i wanna get one and fix it up....paint it, bag it, get sum wheels, system, video junk....all my friends have lowered s10's and stuff i just want sumthin different....i wanna bag it so i can still put a quad in the back....i'm REALLY not a car guy at all, im fairly clueless here, i just want it to look good....im lookin at a 1990 astro with a 305 in it....had anyone ever done anything cool with a van? cuz any ideas, suggestions, or opinions and prices would be appreciated!

crazy casey has an astro van with the 305 AWD in it and its pretty cool. def. fun to rip up the trails with.

If you are planning to get any power out of the thing. You should know that chevy 305's while reliable, are one of the worst chevy engines for modifying & making more power.

thanx for the input guys...at this point, i'm not to concerned with speed....one of my friends was killed in an accident a year ago, and since then my friends and i have really been re-thinking how fast we actually wanna go....but i definately want this thing to be pimp, so any ideas on paint, audio/video, and interior would be great

I never thought Id see the day when someone asked for ideas for a pimped out Astro...but as a matter of fact theres one around here with chromallusion paint, 20" or 22" wheels, bags, system and all kinda of other stuff. Not really big on the Astros but it is pretty sweet lookin!

Personally, I hate van's. No matter what, it's still a van....

-But you could do a 4-link rear end and bag it, lay frame, FBSS, drag, whatever ya wana do, it can be done....at a cost, lol
-A nice set of 20's would set ya back around $2500 (good wheels, dont get kmc or american racing, and any cheap wheel).
-Do the whole interior in troll hair (or tweed, or just a shag carpet, Soooo pimp in a van), nice system with some bump and have a flip out 6.5" tv (thats flips out of the troll hair).
-Paint it a solid color, none of that air-brush crap
-Black the windows out

When you say bag it, what does that mean.... I have never heard that termed used towards a vehicle.... But I am sure you could do some pretty cool stuff to an Astro Van to make it pimp! Do like on Dumb and Dumber! lol, its a good idea for a quad hauling/covered deal going on! Good luck, make sure you post pics of it when your done!

a VERY basic explanation would be replacing all the coil springs and leafs with air-bags that can be inflated and deflated to raise and lower the vehicle on demand. Kinda like hydros, but you use air-bags, compressors, air-tanks, ect. Its a more reliable that hydros and rides about like a stock truck would (sometimes a lil better, sometimes a lil worse depending on if you do it right or not).
But to do this and be able to lay frame, drag, and have FBSS you must do alot of cutting, welding, and suspension work. Also, its not cheap at all. But its all worth it to be able to lay your frame on the ground when you park, make the truck go side to side, and drag your frame while driving at night (sparks everywhere).

those are awesome. they'd be fun to deck out and put stuff on it. they don't cost a lot cause they're value is way down now so you can get a descent one for cheap.

Why? Its a van dude. Sell it and buy a real car or truck. Whats it with people with crappy/old vehicles dumping tons of money into them trying to make them cool. Why not sell it and take the money you would have used to pimp it out and buy a nice newer vehicle? (Not only you, I see this on forums all the time, and some of my friends are doing it)

There is a member here who has the lifted and decked Avi now he used to have a nice Astro. He had it backed and a lot of custom shaving to make it sweet. If I remembered his name I could probably get a pic of it but I can't lol.

Actually, Vans are quite expensive.
A fullsize truck on dubs, layin frame, with a nice system would definatley do the trick of puttin all you lil friends to shame.

To start off with you would want to get either the JVC SD-30 flip down 200watt Head unit or a PIONEER PREMIER DEH-P860MP CD/WMA/MP3 PLAYER and you want about a 400watt amp, and atleast 12" rockford Punch Subwoofers
