i know for a fact the 650 would not be good on the trails. they are designed as wide open throttle to the stops desert racing and overheat fairly easy in trails where they cant be opened up like they should.

i beleive the crf is the same way, but on a lesser degree.

hrmpf, they will both do fine on the trails, i would say get the crf 450, i think it would be alot more fun than the 650. i have not a clue what bradley is talking about and id like to know where he heard that  they say banshees are bad for the trails, and i ride mine on them all the time, have never overheated or nothing, and ive been on alot of 2 tracks trails where you dont come out of 3rd gear. but yea, go with the crf 450 it would be a awesome bike for the trail and just about everything

last weekend I was the nearest track and a guy on a piped CR500 and a gut on a CRF450 and the 450 was bout 3-4 bike lenths from the 500.so I whould go with a CRF450.
just my .02 :ermm:

dont buy either of them, they will make ridden trails not fun, take a look at a xr 600 or xr 400, or the wr series might be just what you want

crf 450.......my friend has one........the only bad thing about them is they are hard to kickstart

the only reason the crf would be hard is if something wwas wrong i heard the intake valves are a problem

I heqard today at my local Honda dealer that Honda may be releasing a new XR450 dirt bike in September with an engine based on the CRF450 motor but a little detuned and with electric start and a headlight. In other words specifically made for trails. So you may want to hold off and see what they come out with?

cant you buy the motors seperate somehow? id like to have one to put in a me 400ex.

yup but i think it costs quite a bit well over 4500 i think

dealer cost on a motor with no stator i think is 3000 so u figure you get one for 3500 then u need wiring harness, carb, headpipe, kickstart, shifter

if it was me and i was you i would go with the crf

the xr400 is 260lbs and the WR450 (the much better bike!) is also 260lbs. Try a WR450 or WR250. on the trails, the 450 and 250 would probably stay the same speed.

Have you looked at KTM lately? If your going to be riding just trails, your proably better off going with a KTM450EXC. The crf is a mx bike.
