Nero is software that you can use to burn cd's

I assume you have a CD burner

XP has a built in burning program if you don't have your own software. There are a few ways to do it but here is a small example.

1. Choose a folder that you would like to make a copy of (example "my documents")
2. "right" click on it
3. Select "Send to"
4. Then select your burner. in my case it's drive E: but yours may be different
5. Repeat steps 1 - 4 for any folder that you would like to backup.
6. When you are done sending folders to your burner "double click" "My Computer"
7. "Double Click" your CD burner (again, mine is E: yours may be different) a new window will open
8. On the left side of the screen under the heading "CD Writing tasks" click on "Write these files to CD"
9. From here on just follow the instructions, you should be all set.
10. this isn't a system restore disk only a backup of your important files in case you have to format your hard drive and reinstall your OS

Good luck

Thanks to everyone for all of your help. Well... Almost everyone. What I am really trying to back up is word documents, I have almost 1,500 of them and really don't want to have to retype all of them. I do have Roxio EZ CD Creator but only the basic version. I think that I have figured it out. I just figured that somewhere on my computer there would be a simple button that said "Back up" and then write it to CD's. Oh well. Thanks again guys. You've been very helpful.

Nooo. What you need to do is just burn a data CD with all the files on there. See if you can burn one with Roxio, or I can send you Nero.
