Pump gas w/ 12:1 comp?

I was wondering if I could run pump (93) octane in my quad, 12:1 compression bored to a 426 for a few days. I'll be going to maine and I dont think I'll be able to find any race fuel up there.

so will i be ok or no?

Why not just buy some race gas before you go and take it with you?:confused: :confused:

you could do it, but then you would more than likely get spark knock. which means it wont run right. also some other bad things could happen. I dont recommend it.

That's the exact reason why I went with a 10.8:1 comp.

The last thing I want is my quad relying on a fuel that is not commonly sold. :ermm:

don't do it man. its a bad idea. i say buy a buncha race gas here and bring it with you, or else better yet since your going on a trip and you probably don't wanna bring an assload of gas, buy a buncha octane boost. then when you get to main buy premium gas and use the octane boost.

Octane boost isn't good for engines, but is much easier to transport than race gas. You should be alright if you use the octane boost once or twice, but don't make a habit of it.

true, but its probably better to run octane boost than to just run too low of an octane on a high compression engine.

A friend of mine who's a mechanic said that the octane boost creates a lot of heat in an engine that you wouldn't get with race gas. I would use the race gas if at all possible.

i had thee same question not to long ago, i calles sunoco and they said that the only octane booste that helps is the band name and expensive shtuff. they also told me that you would have to add 3 or 4 times the amount specified on the bottle for the octane to go up ONLY 2 or 3 points. next day i went out and bought a 55 drumer because. they only sell it during the summer months around here. GO TO SUNOCOS WEBSIGHT AND THEY HAVE A LIST OF THE PLACES THAT SELL REACE FUEL ALL OVER THE COUNTRY. THEY JUST MAY HAVE IT NEAR THE PLACE YOU AR GIONG TO.
