DO THIS NOW!!!! This is a serious problem.

Control-Alt-Delete to get to Task Manager. Look for a
process msblast. Kill that process.
Using Task Manager, start a new process called regedit.
Using regedit, navigate to
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
and take out msblast there. Then run the patch from this site:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/9/8/b/98bcfad8-afbc-458f-aaee-b7a52a983f01/WindowsXP-KB823980-x86-ENU.exe

This is a new virus which will crash or access Win XP & 2000.

any questions?

peace

Well at least now I know WTF was going on.

Damn fdisk fixes everything :D but dont try that at home lmao.
mine got to the point it wouldnt even boot up, acted just like a trashed hard drive. Wasnt any way to get it going so I just deleted XP (didnt like it anyhow) and loaded 2000 on the freshly formated drive.

Hope that killed the little bugger.

I have Windows ME on my home computer so thats what I've been doing trying to find out what is going on!! Anyway so if I go thru the steps onthe 1st page that zep put up this should work?? OH boy I may need help on this one but I'll try it:ermm:

zephead400ex

Dirtmomma, try to follow the steps and you will be able to remove the virus. If you are on a DSL, Broadband, wireless, etc type of connection, you will want to disconnect while removing the virus from your pc. Obviously you will have to be connected when doing anything online, such as updating your virus protection program. I am at work, working with A LOT of ppl that have this virus, man it is nasty!

I will try to check back soon to see how things are going. I think that Harlan will be able to help also, but he is a busy man!

good luck

Yeh i just had the same problem i fixed it yesterday. heres the e-mail att sent me it fixMicrosoft has identified a security issue which is affecting Windows XP

computer by installing this security update from Microsoft.

If you are experiencing problems getting connected or staying connected to
our local numbers and you are getting a message stating, Remote Procedure
Call (RPC) terminated unexpectedly, the following fix may apply to you.

4)Under the Advanced tab, place a check mark next to Protect my computer
and network ...
5)Click the OK button.
6)Click the OK button again.
7)Connect to the Internet.

After enabling the Windows Firewall, go to the Microsoft Knowledge base and
download the necessary patch to correct this issue, here is a link. (Note:
the entire link is not clickable, please copy it and paste it into the
address bar of your browser)

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];823980

If you are having trouble with the link;

1) go to http://support.microsoft.com
2) click on the "Search the Knowledge Base" link
3) in the SEARCH FOR box type in 823980 and press enter
4) click on the first search result for "MS03-026: Buffer Overrun in RPC
Interface May Allow Code Execution"

Windows XP Professional and Windows XP Home Edition users download the patch
that is directly listed under "Windows XP Professional and Windows XP Home
Edition"
ed it up.

there follow those steps and it'll fix it.
