View Full Version : losing power

01-23-2002, 08:14 PM
I was dragging with a few of my friends and I had the trottle all the way in and I started slowing down.....a Beartracker passed me. What would cause this sudden loss of power in 5th gear while on full trottle.

Thanks

Have you ever changed the jetting or changed the exhaust?

nope. my bike is still all stock.

If you downshifted back to 4th and pegged the throttle did the quad accelerate or was the power still fading?

the speed would pick up once i downshifted to 4th. but the RPMs were really high and I could tell the engine needed to be shifted into 5th. So I am still confused on this one.

My 250 gets to a point in 5th where it just won't go anyfaster, but hasn't hit the rev limiter yet, just not enough balls I guess. But if the power is falling, maybe your airfiler is dirty and there is not enough air for the engine to breathe well in 5th.

something's wrong if a beartracker passed you. Check your airbox, filter, and intake track. take out the main jet and clean it if nessessary. try putting a can of carb cleaner through it. It might also be electrical, but I know very little about electricial stuff. just make sure all your connections are tight(plug cap, ignition box etc) were you driving in water previously? My brothers old honda 300 would work as if it had half power the whole time. All of a sudden, the power came back instantly. we siliconed all electrical stuff, and it fixed it. don't know what it was though.
