I just got back from a week at Dune Fest at the Oregon Dunes. This is the second time I've gotten to really ride my FDO 493 and each time it just keeps getting better and better. This thing has so much power, I was able to just gas it in 4th gear downhill on a dune and stand the front end up!! :) :) wheelies are a big problem now. All it wants to do is wheelie!:) :) When climbing any hill, this thing just rips right up it. Its just keeping that front end down thats the problem. I am extremely happy with FDO and my 493 motor. I can't wait for Sand Mountain for Labor Day!
I must admit, at first I was apprehensive about a stroker motor instead of my good old LRD 440. But the more I ride with this motor the more I am able to use it to its potential. With this motor you shift quickly and use the torque to pull you through anything. Being in the wrong gear is impossible now. I can take off in 3rd gear!!! Really!! I found climbing in a higher gear to be the easiest. Just gas it when needed. Thanks again FDO!!!!!:) :)

Sounds like it is a BEAST! Glad to hear you are pleased with the kit, haven't heard a bad thing of FDO yet! Time to get it on the dyno, or do you know the specs?!

later,
Jay:ermm:

Honda Jay, I did dyno it. I was amazed at how far off my jetting was before dynoing it. I didn't have dyno tires at the time, just my razrs. GT thunder dynoed the FDO 473 @ 52h.p. Since they got that reading I'm sure if I do mine again it will be comparable or better. Having the wrong tires can make an extreme difference in readings. I dynoed it to make sure I had the fcr dialed in properly. And now that it is it's awesome!!!

08-11-2003, 10:56 AM
You have to call For Dirt Only them selves and they don't exactly have "KITS" you get a custom built motr to what ever specs you want great people to work with. Huge power, great reliability, and good prices! 740-967-1078

So. . . how GOOD are FDO's prices, as in how much would of the Project 400's 463 cost, or your 493? Just curious!

08-11-2003, 04:00 PM
I think woods 463's start from like $1500 up to what ever you want to spend

I don't know what the project 463 would've cost because I don't know how extensive the mods are. My 493 has everything you can install. FDO's race cam, big valves, springs, 12.66:1 piston, nikasil, large head bolts, etc.. Its hard comparing one shops price to anothers because there is always something different. FDO also completely rebuilt my entire motor from the tranny up because I threw a rod through my other engine. Doug Flinner, (Haydug) sold my new motor to me. (By the way, he's awesome to do business with). In comparison to other motors I've had built, Mike's prices and quality are the best!!:) :) :) :)

[QUOTE]Twisted threads Did you run any of the new Yami's down there?

I ran into quite a few Yami's down there. I wasn't able to make it to the drags though. We were off in a different place the day the drags were held. I was able to drag 2 Yami's @ Pismo though. Each time we raced I was able to pull them by 20-30 feet. This 493 is pumped to the hilt so it should take them! The Yami's were either beating or hanging with every other 4 stroke. The quads that beat me were the built Banshees. Those things are bad *****.

The built up banshees at Pismo are insane. One time we say a banshee with a street bike motor and it had so much power the guy could hardly stay on it. He only was able to go through two gears in a 100 yard drag. (probably converted to a two or three speed). That 493 should beat alot of them though and almost all the other four strokes

Actaully it was a little nicer than that and tghe engine looked huge, I almost think it was like an R1 motor or something. Some old friends of mine used to have a banshee that had the motor split and rewelded making it a three cylinder, that thing screamed it was the fastest banshee in Pismo for awhile. The owers last name was the Borelis, their whole quad was custome painted, and they had a guy that rode the three cylinder to race other people, what money can do.:ermm:

Ive been out their on Memorial weekend and their were so many decked out quads it is hard to keep track, but I might have seen that quad you never know.

it is a zx9r engine ...

should make between 130 and 150hp ...

It has the 41mm fcr carbs and the exhaust. Other than that the engine is stock

stock is 127hp
