looked at the new yama today pretty impressive, it has a water cooled motor that has 11.9 to 1 comp, if the new honda is going to be around the same compression and water cooled will these only run on race fuel or do you think 93 octane will work!:confused:

93 will work perfect, thats what my uncle runs in his Crf 450 and it just freakin rips.

why would a water cooled 11.9 to 1 run on 93 oct but a 10.8 to 1 air cooled motor would need to start mixing race gas into the 93 oct to run right, just curious?:o

it has something todo with the heat.water cooled will run cooler so you can get away with more compression.:ermm: I think thats how it works

oh and race gas runs cooler

i dont really know much about that stuff, but you could run the new yami on 93 fine, garunteed.

water = equals controlled temp

air = hot as hell

Its not just compression that affects the amount of octane needed. Its head design, piston shape......

R6 streetbikes require 91 and they are 12.4:1 stock:eek2:

race fuel is pretty much used to make the bike run cooler... so it will be required more in an air cooled motor at a much less compression ratio then the water cooled motors

Besides the heat and all that, I think they also retard or advance the timing to help keep it from detonating. The Suzukis are like 11.5:1 and they run on 91. The 400ex has low compression from the start, so the engine wasnt made to allow 91 octane with 12:1

I run 110 in my YFZ, had pump gas in it for a while and runs better with the race, i ran 110 with my 11:1 425EX and ive got a 13:1 ordered for this BEAST :devil:

Yes you can run 93 octane on the new Honda. I don't think Honda would be dumb enough to make it so that you have to use race gas. And I talked to a guy at my local dealer and he said for the most part it is going to be like the new Yami, but a lot faster!!:eek: :D I can't wait until Sept. 10!
