your gonna want some super swamper tires, and a big *** set of ballz to do the ridin u have planned; it depends on how many cc's u want, and how much cash u want to spend$$$. Give us some more details dude. :bandit:

Depends on how heavy the mud is you plan to ride. The bigger and deeper the mud, the bigger machine you will want.

The new 400 Ranchers are nice.
Might look into a 450 Foreman or 500 Rubicon. Plenty of power with both machines to pull pretty much any tire you want to put on it. :)

either the prarie, the grizzley, or the rincon

08-08-2003, 01:45 AM
big bear 400 4x4. thats my utility and it has never let me down (i got a winch:D ). put some maxxis or ITP tires on it on buy a warn winch and ur unstopable. but what ever u do, do NOT jump when running it in 5th gear or it will nose dive straight down. i learned this from expeirence before i got the blaster. the big bear 400 is my favorite utility, the recon is my second favorit because u can walk them very easily. just get on a hill and stand on the back bars in 1st gear and let on and off the gas and it'll look like u have hydrolics. them ITP tires are wide, have knobbies about an in.1/2 tall, u can run them flat, and they're the best tires for strattling ditches but they're very expensive. $50 a tire and plus u have to buy the special rims for them because they're so wide. cant use regular rims but its worth it. they last longer than any other tires

I'm not to fond of Polaris, but I've riddena few sportsman 500's and i like them a lot. I like the Wolverine too, but they arn't the best strict utility machines.

I have never ridden one but I would still say the Yamaha Grizz. Very high ground clearance, IRS suspension, switchable 2wd/4wd, locking front diff, disk brakes, dual range tranny etc etc. All the Hondas have drum brakes and Rincon doesn't even have a low range. Don't know much about the Prarie except for that they're very quick for a 4x4. We have two Grizzlys at work they appear to be extremely solid machines.

Arctic Cat 300 4x4

They float. I was playing in the stream today trying to winch a bridge back into place that got washed out on our trail, and backed up a little too far into like 3' deep water, and the damn quad started floating. It was so cool. Reminded me of my Max II 6x6..

Sure you can get the rincon for 7400$ and waste your money:)

I rode them all before buying. I wanted the Rincon because I'm a Honda man. The Prairie was fast, lousy suspension. The Honda was slow, lousy brakes. I would never own a Polaris. The Grizzly is almost as fast as the Prairie, very comfortable to ride, smooth suspension, and it will go thru anything you point it at. I thought I would never own a Yamaha, but I thought it was better than the others. Make sure you ride them all before you buy one. Your opinion may be different. My family has a total of 5 2003 Grizzlys, without any problems. Good luck with whatever one you buy. A 4x4 quad is actually fun to ride, but not as fun as a 400ex or a 250r.

Ok first of DO NOT BUY ANYTHING ALL TIME 4X4 bigest gas hogs ever!!! and automatics eat gas too. My friend runs out of gas on his Quadmaster 500 when im at a half a tank!!! The Grizzly is supose to b nice tho i've heard stories that all other automatic quads have trouble w/ gettin there belt wet except the griz

YOU FIRST CHOICE SHOULD B A HONDA STANDERD PART TIME 4X4:D

My friend did that on his dads Big Bear!:eek2: I couldnt belive it, he was straight up and down when he hit, he went flying, the bike rolled up onto him, and back onto its wheels. He was amazingly allright!:eek2:

I know a litle about 4bys....:ermm: I think that if ur are a sporty 4x4er then go with the prarie. They have tons of power and are fun to mess around on. my 2nd choice would be the Grizzle. It has independent rear suspention. With will make a spoother ride, but less "sporty" of a bike. If I was to get one Id go with the Prarie!!! I rode the 650, and it would wheelie on sand. The 700 is even more beasty. There also is that Rhino thing out now, it uses the Grizzle engine, and dynamics, only its a Golf Cart kinda machine, but they have tons of ground clearance, and look to be a great machine!

If ur price range isnt that high, the I say go with the kodiak 450. It has everything the Grizzle has, but IRS we have a kodiak 400, and its has been AWSOME! I mean its unstopable, the only thing is that it goes threw brake bads kinda quickly.

Like others said, dont get full time 4x4, and the honda's electric shift isnt any good. I say get an automatic, the Rincon is a good bike, but its seems to be bigger and less "sporty" than the Prarie.

The Prarie gets my vote!;)

No one has mentioned this yet...

I have a 2001 Bombardier Traxxter XT. One of the most advanced machines out there IMO. It has AWD, a diagnostic system, and a bunch of other goodies. The standard equip. winch has helped several friends out of their "mishaps". I bought it used, but buying one new will put quite a dent in your wallet (almost $8,000). It is great for putsing around in creeks, mud, lakes, and rock fields. I give it 2 thumbs up!

After being out of the sport of ATVing for awhile I jumped back in with a 400ex about this time last year. Gotta love it....I didn't realize how much I missed it. What a nice machine the 400 is. After awhile though I did some thinking and lots of riding...I realized I did more woods/trail/mud/new trails/exploring then track. So my bro and I went out and each bought 04' Polaris Sportsman 500 H.O. What a machine!!! I've been in the woods and driven through and over things I didn't think was possible. 4x4 is awesome!! I still have the 400 tho so when I have the need for speed or jumping I break out the EX..... I have the best of both worlds!!!

ok from what i know, it seems like thats quite similar to the quest xt. i suggest not getting that because they weigh a ton and its not fun getting them unstuck when theirs nothing with enough power to pull it out. my friend has a quest and she mustve gotten it stuck atleast 10 times in just a couple of rides. some of them were just cuz shes new to quads but others were cuz it had no groundclearance and tires that dont grab. I have to say the best ute that will take the best punishment out there is a rancher I have put my rancher throught hell for 3 years and I can say I have beat the hell out of it and its still hold up pretty good until it went swimming about 9 feet down in a creek, it was not that deep the weekend before. I love that thing and they will take a beating and they are pretty fast with a little help like pipe and jets they will run pretty good. I am also very fond of the Kawi Prairie I am going to get a prairie and try the ute class that GNCC next year.
