400ex airbox

i have my airbox off my 400ex and have a K N airfilter and outerwear do i have to worry about dirt in the engine? And i have seen some places say that the outerwears are waterproof but i find that hard to belive, would the quad be safe though at least some puddels?

no air box? or no air box lid?

if the filter is oiled and cleaned properly, and the outerwear is in perfect condition...id still say no....

but thats a risk that even i have taken before, and ive never been bitten by the horror stories of some people who have their motors seize or blow because a small amount of dust or other crap made its way in and ruined the cylinder walls.........

you never know what if your outerwear comes loose...or off even....??

outerwear covers do keep water out . 1 time after a day of rideing
i washed my quad and forgot i had my lid of still.I fired it up not knowing and when i took the seat off i had 5in" of water in the airbox and it was still running.no water got in at all(true story i swear)
