Congradulations, could you tell me how it is on trail rides after you get some time on it?
I'm thinking about getting a higher strung thumper soon for fast trail riding, and this is one that interests me the most so far. I have a wr 426 dirt bike (love it) And this should run pretty similar.

I REALLY like the power--specially bottom end, throttle response and 2-stroke like hit of the YFZ,,,,,,,,,,,i will compare it to my 310 later today when i ride both and get a good idea,,,,,,,,,but as to a stock R,,,,,,id take the YFZ.
Shocks are similar in capability as my AXIS (of course they arent set up like my axis,,,,,,but its just a comparison),,,,,,,jumps that would have bottomed the stock shocks on my EX,,,,,,,didnt even phase the YFZ last night.......

no i mean the stress from the weigh of the fenders its self will turn it white in some spots, then you gotta hit it with a torch

I sincerely respect your opinion Chris, so let's hear the ride report! I'm tired of reading hype from people who are getting paid to promote it. I need the low down! I went riding last Sunday and saw my first yami 450 up close. Unfortunately he wouldn't let me take it for a spin. We lined 'em up a few times and he would pull ahead off the start but by the time I hit 4th he was back behind me a few lengths.

Well as you know already,,,,the YFZ will not pull a modded R,,,,,or even a stock or modded shee...........but i have my 88 310R for that:devil:
Its hard not to be biased when i already own one,,,,,and truly enjoy riding it....so specific questions you will have to PM me i guess.........LOL
Anyhow as for a trail machine,,,,,,its a bit too tall geared for that......it is not meant to put put around ,,,,it begs to be ridden........ the throttle response is great and can be trail ridden on wide clear trails..........
....i did drag a guy that had a 440 kit in a Z and i beat him by a couple of lengths......for what its worth.......
The shocks are great for an off the show room bike,,,,,,i have yet to even adjust them,,,,,,,,the seat is hard but i rarely sit down when riding hard so i really dont care about that......i dont have my pipe yet but the HMF should be here next week.......
I am going to the sand dunes in Green River Utah over labor day.....and i will have a good idea of how it works in that situation after that date............
So in a nutshell,,,,,,,,i do not MX,,i play around, jump a fair amount,,,etc. The power comes good, first gear is a little tall...,,,,,,but all gears really hit in the mid range and top end------with a good bottom end once rolling...(dont mis understand ,,,it does have good bottom end power)......., handling is as good as my stock 400ex was, the shocks are truly the best for a stock quad, the parking brake is the easiest and most effective i have had on a stock quad..............and most of all ITS FUN TO RIDE.........
I rode a YFZ with 18's on it,,,,,,to see how first gear reacted to being "geared down" and did not like it,,,,,,it was too short legged,,,,even with a full HMF system.....,,,so if i do decide to put 18's on i will up the countershaft by one tooth or so.......to keep some rev between gears.......and see how that goes-----or just leave 20's on it. It will however rev to the moon,,,,,,,,,and pulls strong the whole way......
If i had it to do all over again...........id do it.......no second thought or regrets here.........
ill let you know how it goes in the sand.........
and i know there will be nay-sayers reply to this post...and tell me how bad this or that is,,,,,......i really dont care....we all have opnions...............i love my quad:blah: ,,,,,later guys:macho

Thanks Chris, I ask not to be confrontational or disrespectful but I figure we are in the same boat in that I have an R and want to get a 4 stroke soon and it looks like its going to be either the new yami or honda. I haven't ridden too many other quads so have little to compare it to other than an R or a banshee. I won't be getting rid of the R just getting a second quad. Thanks for the info, keep it comming!

CBW,
If you haven't already definitely pipe that bad boy. When we put the Sparks on my old man's YFZ and rejetted it became a completely different machine. I think I can say without hesitation that the YFZ is the finest sport/race ATV produced to-date. I'm saving my pennies right now and waiting to see what Honda has up their sleeves, but it is going to take a lot to keep me from picking up my own YFZ - it is simply that nice of a machine.
But don't take my word for it - check out what John Arens and John Pellan have to say about it:

no worries i didnt take it like that at all..........i just know how sutff can get out of hand on here sometimes.......by the younger crowd
anyhow i too will keep my r,,,,,,,,and i wanted another 4 stroke,,,,,,,i have ridden the suzuki, and i of course owned an ex........and i didnt like them near as much as my YFZ......

Chris,
I know you already know I too bought a YFZ, but I figure I would chime in agreement with your review. I have to say that it has at least as much power as the Dale had; fun factor is definitely there.
I don't feel like jumping through all the hoops to post a pic for now, but I got the white one as well. So far I have PEP zps, not decided on the a-arms yet, LSR axle, Denton rebuildable steering dampner, Hiper wheels front and rear, Holeshot MX's, PRM chassis and swingarm skids, Arens Bros nerfs and MSR bars on order. I am going to run 20" fronts and 18" rear tires and will probably have to play with the gearing as well. JIM

how does the YFZ compare to the dale? i know ur dale has a decent amount of mods on it and all, but since a cannibal and a YFZ are about the same price, how do they compare? I wanna ride one, and see how it stacks up to my R. anyone in the northern NJ area have one for me 2 "test"? HAHA

So Jim what mods are planned for the YFZ?

The Cannondale was fixed good as new before the 2003 race season, Tina is correct. So, no; I didn't get rid of the Dale because of Trinity. I had the Dale 2 seasons, which is long enough in my book.
As far as power, the YFZ feels about equal to my Cannondale since I took out the spark arrestor...that is all I have done to it so far....lol. I have many, many mods coming....keep a lookout.
To anyone that is considering a new quad and on the fence, my first impressions of the YFZ are favorable. I haven't finished break in yet, so can't comment on power too much, except that it is definitely there. Stock suspension will be all that is needed for the average sized rider as well...and very good for stock. The thing that impressed me most so far is how it handles, very close to a 400ex...no bs....and it feels very light and easy to correct in the air as well.......JIM
I was going to buy one but I figured I didn't get enough use out of my 400 yet to sell it.
Maybe next year.
Ok, thread cleaned up. No sides taken on my part. Just a neutral moderator cleaning up the forums. No more please.
