My friend has a 400EX and the throttle cable is making a ratchet sounding noise. When you push the thumb throttle it ticks like a ratchet. Frayed cable maybe? Any suggestions? He has lubed it and it still does it.

Spend the $14 on a new one or let it get stuck wide open and see if that gives him a good rush...:eek2:

The fix is to replace it....:macho

That's what I told him, I think he's going to get one. That should more than likely take care of the noise and stiffness in it right?
Thanks

Replace replace replace. The last thing you want is your throttle to stick wide open and throw you headfirst into a tree or a ditch.

At the same time (though this should be obvious) clean the carb real well to make make sure the stiffness isn't coming from the slide.

See I don't have the quad at my house so I can't look at it. He's not mechanically inclined either. I'll make sure he gets a new cable and then have him bring it over to my place and clean the carb.
