I put it all together with a JE 11:1 426 piston and a stage 2 hotcam. Should it be quieter than the stock motor? It sounds deeper but not quite as loud. I would think that with bumping up the compression and putting in a bigger cam it would make it a little louder. Did I do something wrong or do they all do this?

sounds like you did something right if it is running good.

Yeah, maybe the longer lift duration of the cam will quiet it down a little. Any thoughts??

Did you make any other changes at the same time as your rebuild? Sounds like maybe you are running with no air-box lid now.

The only other changes I made was removing the choke and putting in a #42 pilot jet. I have always had the airbox lid off.

The difference you are hearing is probably just a deeper exhaust tone. Letting a motor flow more freely, and efficiently can make it run quieter as well. When I got a full exhaust, FCR, and did race porting, my quad was a lot quieter. It is very deep sounding now, unlike my WB E-series that just screamed.

skemp hit it right on. Engine efficiency tends to quiet an engine down. Ever notice how Fuel Injected Turbo cars seem pretty quiet in comparison to a big cammed carbureted engine? My Raptor is definately quieter now, with the 727, than it was when the motor was stock(but piped).
