From what the webcast said it seems as if Honda put an emphasis on reliability.

Did you all hear about the cam and carb mod directly from Honda for $299?

09-10-2003, 07:28 PM
It's not a link to a pic it's a video of a couple guys standin around strokin the 450R....

He works steady afternoon, so I like breaking his stones.. last time I left a message of my revving engine on my LT out riding while he works... Of course that may come back to bite me in the a** some day. The new Honda looks good, maybe time to sell the Raptor and buy my first "Red" machine! :eek2:

That link worked for me. Looks good, although it still reminds me of the 400EX. I like it. But I don't know if it will be enough to beat the new Yammi. When will it go on sale I wonder?

400ex45
09-10-2003, 09:28 PM
i will admit that the kick start does sux but i think we just got spoiled with the electric start. look at the r's people still race those and can manage it so i think i can get use to it.

Z-Mon
09-10-2003, 09:30 PM
it's gonna blow not having reverse, like for me i wish my blaster had it cuz i am always gettin in tight situations, it's gonna suck pushing that thing around.

09-10-2003, 09:38 PM
7600 bucks for that ugly *** lookin thing? i think i will go with the hot looks of the yfz450 thank you.

Bender
09-10-2003, 09:39 PM
Why do alot of people miss the point? The 450R is aimed more towards racing. You don't need reverse or elecrtic start.
It may not be the quad for you if you need such things. We finally get something serious from Honda and people gripe about the looks, reverse, etc... It looks like a good package to me. I was gonna go the CRF engine route in my 400EX, now I won't have too. I'm very happy just seeing it. :D

I just viewed the videos at HRC and they are coming out with a CRF250R and "soon to be released" CRF250X The X will have electric start.

I guess some of us will have to keep riding our old rides until they come out with the TRX450X

I seriously doubt Honda will overlook the potential market to millions of trail riders and the occasional rich fat guy who is not willing to kick over a 450

VIC
09-10-2003, 09:52 PM
Being used to an R I like the fact it doesn't have electric start or reverse. Up untill the yfz and now the 450R I didn't like 4-Strokes at all. I was more old school but these 2 have changed my mind.

09-10-2003, 09:52 PM
okay...im happy with my 400ex right now but i do want something faster. I dont race & ride mostly open trails. I dont have alot of money but i could get a loan for the remaining balaance of what i dont get for my quad & pay it off $150 a month. Should i get new trx450r or keep 400ex or get cheaper & faster atv? I dont have that much money but if this thing is really worth it then i'll get it.

09-10-2003, 10:13 PM
Well just use your head and not get into thoes tight situations where you need reverse. Yes i know sometimes it just happens but 85% you can solve by thinking.

Well since the new honda has a kick starter i see a lot of peopl dont like that. A few things on how that is good...
Less weight cuz you wont have a starter or a battery
Wont have to worry about the battery ever going out.
It is a race quad so the weight you lose but not having the starting system will help out the power to weight ratio.

they dont have any right to state it as the new r. Not even close, they had there thumbs up there as for this long and thats all they could come up with, sorry guys yamaha beat-em to the punch and will soon be the leading atv seller if they are not already, as they are not scared to hit the market hard,

Honda only atv that made the market was the 250r, how dare they put a crf engine is a 400ex and call it the new r

Yamaha makes the Raptor, Yzf450, Blaster, Banshee, Warrior

Honda only makes 3 sport quads and they are all behind

Yamaha has the ballz to show the world whats up, even by still offering the one and only Banshee, and 2 stroke blaster when everyone ran for the hills.

Sorry honda fans, You held your breath for too long and your face tuned blue.

I used to be a Honda fan.....i was all pumped up about the coming of the TRX450R but now i am really disappointed....based as the same thing as that friggin 400ex, but just a different motor...like most say...what a crying shame....all these years they could have been making something nice.....I shouldnt be bashing it yet because it could very easily be better than the Yamaha....look at what cannondale had in there first year of production...aluminum frame, 440, race ready ride!....Honda has been in it for many years and could have something really awesome....I know they leave it up to the owner to do all there own custom modifications to keep these aftermarket companies in business....i mean u can go out and buy a dirtbike and its ready to race....why dont they do that with there quads, by the time u go out and buy decent shocks, extended axle and a-arms, handlebars, nerfs, he would have over 15,000 in it...my big fuss is, why dont Honda have this stuff already on there.....I know one thing...if i had the money to buy either it would definately be the Yamaha...

suzukiz400rider

I have no intentions of even looking at one at a dealer, watch how many people who had put money down on one get there deposit back and switch over the Yamaha

Not saying it wont be a contender, but the looks alone show how much they care about you guys, how long did you wait for them to build this so called new "R" not even close to it, keep your 400ex's and stuff a crf engine in it, should cost the same

Honda does build reliable bikes, but if you follow your repair manauls any bike you own will last, I got an original 87 banshee with its 4 cylinder set on it, meaning I went over .080" and started fresh 3 more times with new cylinders, and have yet had to replace anything other then my top end. Bike is all stock. You just have to take care of whatever you own. But the most billet proof honda is the 300ex, which I use in the winter, the raptor sucks

There is some truth in that statement but it is also very "baited" and one sided.

Not saying it wont be a contender, but the looks alone show how much they care about you guys, how long did you wait for them to build this so called new "R" not even close to it, keep your 400ex's and stuff a crf engine in it, should cost the same
Well its still to be seen what this new machine is all about.

Though I agree its not the best looking quad and the plastics dont appear to be the most functional the basic premise of a EX with a more powerfull engine with liquid cooling and some other small changes was all that was really "needed" but that was 2 years ago. The trend to this style of plastics isnt my flavor but I cant agree with your comment either.

So now I guess many were just expecting more, and sure its more than the 400ex but just not what some thought all the wait was over. Then there are those who understood this machine was in exixtance for a while and Honda was just lowering the amount of 400ex's in stock.

I own a dealer ship and www.bansheesonlyracing.comI have owned almost every quad made to date except for a cannondale, as for buying a yamaha I have 4 of them, and the z400 which has been modded and raced against the yzf and it does a good job of hanging in there. the" new 450" lol

First off you need to stop posting and get to work on your website quick, seems your missing some stuff like anything behind the main page. Get to work.

Too bad you never owned the cannondale, it is more hi tech than everything else you mentioned and didnt ask you to bleed red or blue.

Anyhow enough of this BS till we all get more info. The pics are up all over the net and Honda will have them on their site also. Now the thing is to get one and figure out what it has, needs and wants etc so anyone can make their decision.

My decision for now is waiting till more info is out and all the excitement is over till I make a decision at all.

TRX450R

$6,499 BASE MSRP

Available January 2004

Desert, woods, track—the all-new TRX450R doesn't care where it's going to dominate. It just will, thanks to its incredibly potent package featuring a CRF450R-derived engine and Pro-Link suspension. Quite simply, there has never been a higher-performing sport ATV anywhere.

The Frame is def steel, but the sub-frame looks to be pretty beefy aluminum....

W/ a Silencer like that,I hope she has a nice tone from the facotry, unlike the Yamaha....

Alos the 1st thing I'd like to gank off it is that godforsaken front end...

I'll weld me some 400ex mounts on if I have tooo....

Also, looks like a 400ex swinger,so all your carrier's and axles and stuff may fit...shocks tooo?

I think this is going to sell better than the YFZ.

1. Its a Honda

2. I think the YFZ will sell better with the people who truly want to race, but the 450r will sell better with the everyday trailrider/casual racer.

No, I agree - I won't consider a 4-stroke kicker for cross country racing. I've ridden a CRF and it can be a real ****** to kick over when its hot...

I don't see the frame being similar to the 400ex as a bad thing - why change great geometry? AND - if it's similar enough, then my aftermarket goodies will bolt on and save me a TON of money...........one question. Does anyone know if this thing has room to bore? The looks grow on me.....I will be watching to see how the Yami and Honda compare on the track!

Not available until 2004! Blows. Gonna have to wait three + months for comparision testing!?! Why release info then? And remember with the Yamaha you can remove the electric start and drop another 15-20 pounds! This will be interesting but by the time it is released it will be old news.....

I was just on the preview link from the last thread.
I scoped out all the pics.

I really hope that my 400ex mods will bolt up to this one...

where do people get 20 lbs.. its like 8 lbs you save with kickstart. if you take off the stock exhaust you save 10lbs!
