I was wondering if it is possible to put an xr80 engine on a 300ex frame. I've been thinking about doing something like this for my son. He's not ready for the power of the 300 but he's getting a little big for the little 90cc quads. Any help would be appreciated. THX

i wouldnt even think about it, it would be was slower then a 90cc quad i would say, maybe more like cr80

Why dont you just get him a larger quad than the 90, suzuki 160 quadsports are nice quads for kids.

yeah i've seen a couple of cr80 engines on 300ex frames. they're pretty quick

Well I'm not really wanting to mess with the 2 strokes. I'm not looking for a fast quad but a stable one. I thought it would be a good father/son project. I'd really like to stick with Honda.

i have heard of putting an xr80 engine on a 400ex frame. SO putting it in a 300ex im sure has been done,

What about some kind of governor on the throttle?
Might be a few $'s less:)

buy a 250ex. put a governor on it and your set. When he is ready for the speed and power, take the governor off!

I think the governor idea would work. Any ideas on how to do this? Thanks for all the help everyone.

Check out the September Dirt Wheels they have a whole section on it. But they used a 250R frame with a kx80 engine? I think

^^^^^ YEP they used a 250R frame, you can also use a blaster frame too, so I dont' see why a 300 frame won't work. Good luck have fun!!

You might be able to adjust the throttle cable?
Or fabricate some sort of a throttle stop to keep the throttle lever from going all the way open.
I don't know if the 300 has it but some of the small quads have a screw on the throttle house that limits the lever movement.

So if the small quads have a limiter on the throttle housing. Just put that throttle housing on it. I am sure it would work. I know when I used to ride my sled when I was like 5 my dad would zip tie a piece of would under the throttle to minimize the amount you can push it. I wouldnt put an xr80 motor in a 300ex. It would be VERY underpowered. a little raptor 80 would be faster because its lighter. I would just keep the 300ex motor in it with a different throttle housing.

just drill a hole in the thumb throttle housing and tap it. A 10/32inch round head screw works and use a nut to lock it down,

Not a bad idea Coorsman.

Hey 300exOH,

if u decide to drill a hole to make a throttle limit just pop off the cover of the thumb throttle and find the best place to drill the hole so that when the screw is screwed in it, hits the arm inside the housing square. then just find tune how much throttle u need for ur kid.

put a screw infront of the throttle lever abotu half to 3 quarters to full throttle so tis easy to take off after
