ok i was just looking at the new issue of dirt wheels .
(september)

on page 156 theres a pic of bill ballance .
under the pic is the heading

it's going to take more than a stolen quad to deny bill his fourth
championship this year.
look for bill to be riding a new production-based aluminum framed LRD/honda before the season is out.
When Honda returns they will want that 1# plate

i think some one just let the cat out the bag .

you sure????

LRD makes aluminum frames.

I dont think they let anything out.

and it says 'production based' i think that means a bike engine in a aluminum chassis like they said

this is what got me thinking
(look for bill to be riding a new production-based aluminum framed LRD/honda before the season is out.

don't production-based mean stock as in pro production.
class . i may be wrong im not up on the rules .

but the thing about when honda returns got me thinking

Bill has a new YFZ 450. He is going to try it and the new Honda out.

I do believe that in the Pro-Production class you have to run stock frames (that can be gussetted). If Ballance is going to run an aluminum-framed quad in the Pro-Production class it's going to have to be one off of Honda's assembly line.

BigThumper33

Guy is right. In pro production have you to run a stock chasis and it can be gussested but only for strength. You can not change any geometry of the stock chasis. The honda 450 is coming in chicago at the atv dealershow in sept...

Bill has an Alum. framed LTZ that he will race once he has the points locked up. If I'm not mistaken, 1 more win and he has it won! He will run it in the pro class where it is legal.

The key words there are Production based

He could just be using the new motor with his aluminum frame.

Pappy, I've been told down the grapevine that Wayne at PEP has been telling a few friends of mine that it is coming in sept... Now if it doesn't, I think I'll just have to take a trip over to Wayne's with bat in hand lol

I have a STRONG feeling they are gonna use the 250 thumper and put it in a quad. It supposely puts out 42 HP:eek2:. Even the dirtbike mags, they left ALOT of room up over the 250 thumper bike...maybe a 450 comign soon...kawasaki knows they have to do something..:uhoh:

Thats all for now:devil:

thats what Wayne is saying. Says it is definately coming with an aluminum frame, and the shocks are high quality, so aftermarket will not be needed, just need to send them into him to get the right setup... I hope so...

Bill is not going to run the LRD framed Z because of some Z frame issues.

Bill said today that he has a new LRD frame for the Z. It is ready to race. He also said that his YFZ450 engine is strong and is just wait on the suspension parts. Most likely will race one of the 4-strokes the rest of the year.

I know Kawasaki is working on their 450 dirtbike now. After the bike is released they will work on the 450 quad. I would look for the quad in about two years.

The 2 stroke well, we'll just have to wait and see!

thats just a drawing, I want to see a picture of it before I believe thats what it looks like.

I highly doubt honda would put all that money into it, and just have those junk *** shocks on there...they look just like the stockers for an ex. There is no way they are going to release a quad without shocks to atleast match up against the yfz...so as of right now, I think that drawing is bogus!!!

Bretmd94

better have more decent shocks for the price...

im going by the honda shop today to see if they have an estimated price on it.

Rico, I have posted nothing on here that Bill, BJ or Jeremiah would care for you or anyone else to know. It is not "top secret" that Bill plans on racing a thumper this year. If you have not heard this news, you are behind. Worry about your own racing program and not Bill's.

Have you broke one? A newer one?

This interested me because it shows hondas intrest in aluminum frames. I have heard Honda has broken quite a few designs.

Bretmd94

if honda made an aluminum fame like LRD's that would be cool. I always imagined one like the Cannondales.

BigThumper33
08-06-2003, 03:51 PM
I'd guess they are just looking at the LRD for ideas. Honda has been making aluminum frame bikes for years, they have plenty of experience making aluminum frames...I doubt they are taking notes from LRD.

LRD has been having problems with breakage at the peg area. My friend had to send his attitude 250R aluminum frame in to get a chromoly tube machined into the pro peg mount area. They said they would pay for shipping and the work if they fixed it before it broke...if it were to break then they would have charged him. Even though it didn't cost him any money, he still had to take the time to completely tear the bike down and put it back...he was down for a month...in the middle of the season
