OK I love my 400ex, and I love the handliong, but I hate being passed by Raptors in top-speed runs and all. So I was looking for more top end, And I need some input.

I am gonna get the following mods Porting,3-angle vavle job,Hard-Faced rocker arms,Valve springs,mid-top cam,16/36 gearing, and Edlebrok Carb.

Now with those mods what bore do you think will give me the most top end?
416?
426?
440?
465?

and what do you think I will have for a top speed with those mods? Thnaks, joe

Get the mods you mention, except get an FCR 39mm carb and a 416 w/ 12:1 compression, this will do it.

why? i would say go for the 440 of the 465. Stroke it too if money is not an issue. i am a 300 rider, but the more the merrier.(i think thats how you spell it.)

Get something with enough power to pull it all the way to the rev limiter in 5th, like mine does :D

How bout a 11:1 piston,because I still wanna run 93 octane fuel.

I just want to smoke a Raptor sooo bad. I mean I want to go up to a group of Raptors and say "Hey Guys, I just got this 2001 400ex and all it has is a pipe, and I wanna see what it gots agaisnt a Raptor. I'll let them laugh a lil, then when we race we'll see who's laughing then! haha

I would do a 416 or 440. If you build a 416 right it will smoke any Raptor. Plus it would be cheaper and more reliable than the 440. That would be funny to ask them to race and them blow them away. I would get a Sparks or TC 416 Setup.

go 11:1 416, Web Cam #55911(i think thats what it is) oversize intake valves, and FCR carb, then if you feel like it go alky. that will get it done! :D

If you trail ride, get a different cam though.

Well, I think a mid-top cam will work fine for trail ridin.

I was reading an article about this 440kit from Duncan that costs 1800 for parts and Labor (except for the carb). It Come with 440 kit,mid-top cam,3-angle valve job,Porting,Hard-faced rocker arms, vavle springs, and all the labor.

Then some people rode it,and they said the power was so spread out and user friendly. But n-e-ways I want the mid-top cam, seeing that the 400ex makes mo power at 4000-8500rpm's.

What do you think would be the top speed for this work if I get it done?

The Duncan Motor would be very good. $1800 for Parts and Labor is Cheap. I would get it. If you have extra money you may want to get a Carb too. I think the Top Speed will be fast enough to beat a Raptor.

your top speed will depend on your gear ratio

id get cts 440 kit, its 1200 i think, and it ripps up raptors easy, i want to add one tooth up front, would that help me go even better?

440, a 16 Tooth Front Sprocket will raise your Top Speed. It may take away some Bottom End though, but with a 440 you have enough Bottom End so if you loose some you will be ok.

What will be the best piston for the 416 kit JE? I want to do a 416 also but I need to run on 93 OCTANE. Marcums sell it (instaled) for $155 are they good or should I take my cylinder somewhere else?

Get the 416 Kit from Marcum`s. It includes a JE 416 Piston Kit, Boring the Cylinder, XR400 Cam, Viton Valve Seals, and I think Gaskets. It`s around $300 for all that stuff. Marcum`s will be a good place to bore your Cylinder. If you didn`t want to Ship it out you could have a Local Shop do it.

If you are only about top-end, moto-man sells a 36 rear sprocket for the 400. You could have a 16/36 if you want but you will have no bottom-end power.

10.8:1 JE piston will run 93 octane just fine,,don't go any higher.
