For those of you that are interested in the flat proof system that I used at The Wisp....
William Yokley came up tuesday and we gave them the torture test. We rode on a 5 mile track that consisted of about 3.5 miles of creekrock that was very sharp and the rest was fast fire roads!!!
William ran the system in all 4 tires and I didn't run it at all just for comparison sake. We both were running 5psi in the tires.

On the 2nd lap I had 1 rear flat.... changed it and went back out.
On the 4th lap, we decided to stop and look at Yokley's tires. Sure enough he had 1 rear flat and didn't even know it! Just for the fun of it we decided to let the air out of all his tires. We went out for another lap and I could tell right off the bat that William was going much faster than he had with air in his tires. About 3/4 of the way through the lap I had another rear flat.
We got back to the truck where William told us that he was able to click it up 1 gear and go way faster then he thought he could ever have gone in a place that was that rough because the tires/flatproof system were soaking up all the harsh rocks and roots! He said "I have never ridden anything that was that smooth in the rough stuff".

I believe this is gonna make a huge impact for XC and desert racers. Not only will you not have to stop to change flats, but mentally and physically you will be able go much faster through rocks and rough terrain just knowing that you will not get a flat and beat yourself to death.

I cannot talk about the system yet but as soon as the powers that be give me the word, I will post pics and more details about this neat new product.

Isn't Mr Summer's responsible to pay for carnage testing? Well it's good to see that after a year of talk they are finally getting to the buy stage. From what I heard last year about them from Jeff and until now these have been tested better than almost any other product I have seen. If Jeffy and yeller yokley can't tame them...then my lard ***** will be happy!!:macho

PS Rico, don't feel to bad...I getting the ripoff cause Jeff sold me those wheels and tire's for $350 today.... looks like more than just a small ding Jeff :( lol

cdalejef

Nope...no webbing. They are gonna be a little costly because of the cost to manufacture. They will probally only appeal to racers that don't want to get flats.

I seen somewhere a couple years ago that 2 wheel bike riders used several baseball size silicone inflated balls in the tire instead of a inner tube. have any of u ever seen the wheel inserts that armored vehicles use... such as the presidential limo.

my guess is it is somthin like that. the inserts that the vehicles use comes in two peices that bolt together. am i right JEFF.

dont the dirtbikes in the GNCC's use a similar device.

toby400ex
08-02-2003, 08:09 PM
back when i read dirtbike mags they had the foam things you stuck inside ur tire instead air, im suspecting its like that. The armored cars use big plastic curved blocks.

cdalejef
08-03-2003, 01:10 AM
No, the are not moose tubes like the bike guys run. Those only last for a couple races, this will last indefenently!

08-03-2003, 01:13 AM
solid rubber tires :eek2:

08-03-2003, 01:17 AM
Are they Self-Sealing or Self-Supporting?? Or is it like the PAX system on cars where you have to buy a special rim with the tires and a polyurethane support ring is bonded onto the rim?

cdalejef
08-03-2003, 01:31 AM

i think it s some sort of a foam insert. alot of skid loaders and front end loaders run foam filled tires. if you took off the tire and filled it 3/4 full of foam let it dry, then mount it on a wheel put some air in it your ready to go. if the air came out no big deal. it would also soak up the bumps in the ruff stuff. thats my opinion.

This may be a really stupid question but I assume most xc guys run 6ply tires. With this new system do you run 2ply to offset the added weight since you no longer have to worry about flats? I think that product rocks even for "nonracer" types like myself.

We talked about running 4 ply but I don't think the weight savings is enough to worry about. The tires can still get side wall cuts, you just don't know it. After lots of races a 4 ply may be tore up so bad that it starts falling apart.

We rode at Fred's (WOOLIN) farm.

Add that to the fact that I also did not go to two races I think my points are good. I just need some more throw outs. LOL. Thats insane they made you sign up to race. I have a real problem with that set up at MD. Good Luck Papy hope to see that purdy quad of yours on the line, be ready to get it trashed by some rock or oak tree. It just looks too good to set on the sidelines!:eek2:

Hey, Buck442, i just checked out the points, your right, a few more top 5's and you may move up as far as 6th. the guys right ahead of u in points are all lined up, Jeff will have his hands full with Cook, Rick's doing well from just being consistant, there are guys out of the top 20 in points that have 1rst, second and third place finishes this year. weird !!!!!!

Pappy, what class did u sign up fer????? hey why not race the next one out at Ttown, run the junior class with DK, the Carman, and me!!!!!!

oh yeh!!!!pit duty's!!!!! don't remind me. i was supposed to be pitting for our entire team (in the #14 pit)with BillN. for the entire season, thats why i started runnin stock class. well i missed a few and we never really got it together as a team thing like we thought. I guess i bailed on everyone:ermm: It was all kinda based on one rider racing this one bike, then he didn't want to ride it cause of the shocks suckin, well the hole project stopped for a few months so i never went to help at the races.(cause the bike was not being raced) Now we have the shocks squared away sent the crappers away and got real ones, my sponsor changed everything on the frame that we doubted or questioned and i went last night to inspect it. Suddenly i'm glad our Pro rider bailed on us, now i get a race chassis for free to race the remainder of the year and next year as well. Anyone know of real fast GNCC Pro looking for a chassis to run an R. I hope not cause until someone speaks up, this babys mine!!!!!!!
