How often should the valve lash adjustment be performed?

Are there any signs or idications that it is out of wack (tapping, etc)?

I do mine every fourth oil change. I have only adjusted them twice but I check them every fourth O&F;)

if you have your owners manual, i think it says it in there. i thought honda recomended every 500 hours or so but i can't remember. when you hear some ticking from your valves, i would go ahead and adjust them.

if you are not sure how to do it, go to the tech articles on this site and there is a do it yourself valve adjustment. it is a good write up and it is even done on a 400ex. one of my local shops here charged me $40 for just a valve adjustment about 1 1/2 years ago. that seems pretty cheap to me. my other local shop charges a little more from what i hear. anymore, i just adjust the valves myself. i can have it done by the time i drive to the dealership and back, plus i don't have to pay.
