Just as the subject states.... BTW, hello everyone... Joining the ranks after a long absence from riding..

Bought a new 400 ex last week, babied it as much as possible, checked oil and all fluids. Blowing a little white smoke on deccelaration. What gives any thoughts before I call the dealer....

thanks.. :D

an aggresive break in period will make a much better ring/cylinder seal. Don't go out hot rodding it, but definately do not baby it. Your only real chance of getting the rings to seal properly is in the first 15 minutes of ride time, after that the honing marks are beat down pretty good.

I've broke in all my motors hard, and never had a problem. I've seen several broke in very easy, and they smoked after a year or two...

:ermm: OK I get it.....I suppose I know better that I should be more specific in my post's.... the term "BABY" of course meaning that I am not beating the tar out of this thing yet. From the reply's I should not worry about it at all. I am only able to run hard for a few short burst's on the trails around here.. (mostly farm corn fields..) So, have fun on it but no competion right?

Thanks gang.... I feel much better now...

P.S Anyone running with a twist throttle? I'm a converted MX rider.. (Mike Larocco area)

I can ride both. Thumb on my ex, and twist on my dad's R. I used to ride a 98 cr125, so I'm used to the twist.

i put a twist throttle on my ex first week i got it...glad i did...wasnt sure i liked it on it at first but the second day it was on it felt so much better than a thumb..i had only ridden my neighbors kx80 before with the twist and liked it so decided to try it on my quad...very happy with it
