first of all........thanks for all the kind words. Without Leo Hickey's vision to build this site, none of us would have gotten to know each other. The thanks goes to Leo.

I have been slowly stepping away for months. I joined this site as one of the first 50 members. I think I was like the 28th or something. Back then, the 400ex was new to all of us and we were all looking for info and tips. It was like a small family.............everyone was cordial to each other. A long time went by before Leo even needed any moderators.

I have since watched the forums turn into something else. Something that is less desireable for me to visit. Fact is............now we have members flaming all the time, folks ripping each other off via the classifieds and general discontent.

If I edited all the posts and crap I see on exriders these days 50% of the threads would be locked or deleted. That type of moderating has not exactly been supported by Ben, and I suspect it won't be tolerated by the new administrator. The moderators can only do SO much. You folks have to police your own comments at times.

with that being said..........I must add that I hold no grudges with any exriders members, mods or administrators past or present. I am just not willing to go through another policy change. I have simply outgrown exriders.com.

It has been an absolute pleasure getting to know most of you.........and a real pain in the *** knowing some of you. I have made lifelong friends on this website and will always remain a member. I wish the new administration well and I am sure things will be great for the future of exriders.com

Yes, I agree - this site is only getting bigger and better. Sure it isn't a tiny little site like it used to be, but now we are giving tons of people the best information on some of the best ATVs made. Every time any significant change takes place on here, like in life, a handful of people are quick to be pessimistic. They did it when Leo stepped down and I'm hear to tell you that since he stepped down EXriders has more than doubled in terms of visitors and posts, perhaps even trippled. That is how you tell success! The information is getting better, and there is more of it. And just wait until the new Honda sport quad comes out. :)

For the couple people stating that the flames are out of hand - well I watch it closer than anyone (believe me, I am obsessed), and the flames are much lower in number than they were 8-12 months ago. There has always been flaming (remember the flame room?) on EXriders, it is certainly nothing new. We should all try to resist the urge to see everything in the past with rose colored glasses!

To those who are unsure of EXriders.com's future, I say have faith in what we have here. It is getting better month by month and the sky is the limit :D

Well only Jesus Christ is perfect and he doesn't own nor run this webpage so don't expect this page to please every single person that gets on here. Yes the page has changed alot since i joined over 2 years ago. There have been some bad times and alot of good times. We went from 50 most users at one time to over 700. So yes less members means less BS..more members mean more BS. I have a life outside of exriders, So I can't sit here 24/7 and babysit the page and look for topics that might not be quad related. The open forum seems to be the only place were you might find the younger crowd acting up. Well does that mean we should change things so that only members 25 and over can post because they've reached puberty??? Kids are kids so they will say kids things. I for one will not put up with the BS in the other forums but the open forum is just that. I suggest going to the technical forums to stay away from normal everyday non quad related talk...:)

The only way it could ever be the way it was 2 years ago when we had a few members is to get in a time machine. The number of members has quadrupled to say the least in the last 2 years so it'll never be the same.

Atreyu has made an unnessary comment in it so it was removed after cowsbite posted back at him....but he said they know each other and were just joking, but without a j/k at the end of a phrase like that, it looks like a flame instead of a joke.

I'm with 4punks. I was member number two, right behind Leo. I've watched what the site has become over the years, and to be honest - I don't really care for what it is right now, which is why you seldom see me post or even visit anymore. Seems like this has happened to many of the most knowledgable members. Only so much juvenile BS a person can take.

Ben mentioned post and membership count having gone up over the years. Those are certainly not the measure of "true" success of the site unless you're strictly looking for numbers to attract advertisers. If I wanted to visit a place that's only concerned about membership count & sheer post numbers, I'd go to ATV Confusion, which ironically, lately, has been a better place to visit than here.

My opinion is to kill the off topic BS. It serves no purpose other than to clog an otherwise good system, raise server requirements, which in turn means more advertisers become necessary, which in turn means a "nazi like" approach must be taken against all other's that post anything that may be construed as free advertising to protect those that are paying for it. Note the "fine print" #5 that now resides at the bottom of the forum, ever wonder what that is now there?

This whole thread is a very good indication as to the state of things - how many people have posted here just to see themselves post? I say about 90%.

You're pretty much forced to wade thru the off topic BS to get to anything because there's so much of it.

Personally, I don't have the desire to navitate thru each of the 6 or 7 individual forums I want to look at, so I use the "get daily" or "get all unread posts" feature.

The Open forum is obviously the largest offender - however, in the past I liked to look there because many times people don't always post technical questions or info in the appropriate forum.

You've been around long enough that I'm surprised you don't know the difference between "bashing" and constructive criticism (i.e. voicing one's opinion of how things are going).

Judging by the sheer amount of BS around here anymore, and the people participating, I suppose my opinion will not be very popular, but I haven't let that bother me in the past, so I don't guess it will bother me now either.

Gabe, I agree with you 100%. Pappy also made a good statement, about this being more than a Quad tech site.
I came back as a Mod because I hated to see a few punks ruining it for all, and I want to help clean up the site.

Read my reply again Guy, it wasn't a criticism of the moderators, advertising, or even administrators - it was simply an explanation of the obvious - when the site requires so much bandwith and storage, it requires advertisers to pay a large premium to support the site - this in turn creates a hostile atmosphere for anyone that has any affiliation with a commercial shop, which many times runs off some very knowledgable people. I personally know some very knowledgeable and helpful people that refrain from posting and participating because of this.

True, but the off-topic stuff has reached epidemic levels. Much of what's posted are "me too's", or other 1 - 3 word sentences that contribute no value even to the off-topic posts. This is the stuff that is most frustrating to wade thru.

I'm really not interested in continuing this argument/conversation/debate - just thought I'd let Joe and others know that they're not alone in not liking what they see lately.

I'd personally love to see this place get away from being a place for the 10-16 year old crowd to hang out & BS and back closer to it's roots where we had a lot more participation from people that had great info to share.

Theres some good points being made.

This site is just going to get bigger. Theres no way to please everyone. There also no way to change whats happening to the site. More people will come, some smart, some not so smart, its just how it goes.

Like was said before the Open Forum, is for the BS and if we can keep the BS out of the tech forums then I think we are doing a good job.

I would have to slit my wrists if I had to moderate this site. So i Can understand peeps leaving the job. More moderaters would be helpful, so if people like Joe did want to take a month off of not visiting this site it wouldnt be noticed much. I'm with Rico. The tech sections are great, I've learned a great deal from them. However, 100% technical information all the time isn't very popular. The Open Forum always has more people in it at any given time, and has the most replies. Why? Because people need a place to hang out and BS. I, for one, find some of the useless non-quad related topics both educating and entertaining.

Yes, the Open Forum eats bandwidth, increasing the costs for running the site. However, it also ATTRACTS more people, thereyby making the site more attractive to advertisers. I am certain that if the Open Forum did not exist, we would not have near as many members or regular visitors, and the sponsers of this site would not see as great a return for their advertising dollars.

I can certainly see Joe's point of view. As a moderator, he's obligated to police the site and scroll through the countless pages of BS. As a regular member, he can choose not to visit the Open Forum and choose not to read all the useless junk that people post. As a regular member he has a choice, as a moderator he is obligated.
