400ex oil level

I bought my 99' ex used and when i the oil level is at full (when Its hot like its supposed to be) it will smoke alittle and burn the oil untill its about half way on the dip stick but then maintains this level for quite a while, whats the problem? is my ring worn? anyone else have this problem?

sounds like it's just overfull. if you keep the oil level at half way on the dip stick it sound like you will be fine.:)

Check your oil level before you ride and make sure its full. Then after you go riding let it set and cool down and then check it again to see if you lost any oil.

Remember to get an accurate reading the motor has to be warmed up for a few minutes,,don't check the oil if the bike has not warmed up.
