Going through the membership list I looked at a few pages and there is a lot of names with no posts or just 1 or 2 posts, and they have been members longer than I have. I usually just post information that might be useful to someone's problem (which you can tell how much I know by my post count) Well anyways, I clicked on the homepages for the members and the first 5 I clicked on were advertisements for random things, software, porn, whatever. I think you (the moderators) should ban or just delete these members. It might help to clear up the site so we can see some more of people's hard work and beautiful quads.

Anybody else see this?

This past winter I actually did remove the names, but not the posts, of more than 5,000 older members who had not been on the site in quite some time. Maybe next winter it will be done again :)

i think thats a great idea. if they don't come on in like so many months or years even delete thier account.

Ben, have you checked into hacks for the board? Well...i guess its Harlen's duty now...but there might be a hack that deletes members after a certain duration of time that their account has been idle...say a year or so and if they havent been on any within that year then remove the names.

Just throwin out a suggestion, I know PHP has "hacks" but Ive never really messed with VBB. :)

we use YabbSe

Yabbse (http://www.yabbse.org/)

it has a attachment to allow you to view inactive members and you can specify how many days to go by. then you can choose one or all of them to delete.

You can also do this with posts that are older then x days old.

If you need any help let me know.

one more lil secret. YabbSe will cut the bandwidth of your forums significantly. like say from 1 gig to like 350 mb a day. and i assume you know thats a good thing. ;)

the bad part is that a ton of members dont post but browse the forum regularly. harlen added a feature which allows us to view these members. i was surprised to see members browsing that have never posted:p

well what is the purpose of signing up if you just want to browse. i know then you can't see pictures but what if instead you made it where you could view everything without a membership but only post if you have one.

A guest feature would work.

the benefits of being a member are that you have the ABILITY to join in the forums not just browse. if a member joins the site just to seek info...and look at pics then whats the problem in that:confused: contrary to what ive seen elsewhere this site still provides the most and fastest info about any atv youll find on the net.

the mods had a feature(and i want it turned back on) that allowed us to monitor what each member was doing. for example i could see what thread a guest was viewing. the biggest benefit that i recieved from that ability was to measure what impact certain topics had on the guest members that were browsing the site. this allowed me to continue threads that were of interest to guests and possibly would then encourage them to join the site.

when you have sponsors...more members make them happy. a happy sponsor is a good thing. higher active members mean more site traffic etc.

i try not to think about the tech stuff too much anymore. its hard enough with all the stuff we have going on behind the scenes to have the time to watch what i used to.

anyway...dont sweat it. as long as no one jacks with the members list im happy.

i know i'm just saying alot of people only join to see pictures. i know i have done that on other sites. i was just saying you could make it where everyone could see pics member or not and that would cut done on how many members, but it wouldn't cut down on active members, since they wouldn't be posting anyways.

What is the big problem with havin members that ONLY post or ONLY read, or ONLY participate? I used to post a good bit, but seemed EVERY time I see a decent thread started, some snot-nosed punk wants to hi-jack it and make it a pissing contest. I only come here once in a while to see what's new and exciting. Not worth the hassle of fighting with immature kids so I son't post much, if at all when I am on. There are OTHER sites to go to as well as EXR, but I guess some peeps see it as if you don't spend 100% of your browsing here, then you shouldn't be a member. :blah: BTW to those who complain about posting pics, LINK them and NO probs. MAYBE :macho
