It's time to rebuild the motor (high compression piston, beefier timing chain etc) and I want to put in a more agressive cam while i'm at it. I want something that has more mid to top end than stock, but doesn't require hardface rockers or any other modification to the valvetrain. I've heard mixed opinions about the XR400 cam, and I'm not going to go with anything made by HotCams. Anyone have any ideas? Also what is the HRC cam? is that different than the XR400 cam?

The HRC cam is a nice cam. Nice gains on the mid to top end. It is more aggressive than the xr 400 stock cam. It is a cam made by honda for the hop up kit for the xr / trx 400 motor.
HRC = Honda Racing Corp.

If not the HRC try the Web or TC cam All are good cams.

Good Luck

Their was a huge thread about it, basically the hotcams wwere saving money by having you press the flange on yourself and the flanges were coming loose, Im going to make sure mine pulls to 500 PSI when I have it pressed on.

The new hotcams have the flange welded on and it has been fixed. If you have the extra money the TC and WEB cam are great.

Are an interference press fit with a keyway. It's a way better design than before and makes it a complete drop-in. No more spline worries. No more pressing anything off and on.

Where is this "welded" flange info coming from? I'd read that here before and was just curious.

my cam is all top end and mid... it has no low end but once it kicks in it takes off!!!!! it sucks for trail riding how its set up but u just gotta learn how to ride it... when i had on the lrd pipe it fixed the low end problem but it was just 2 loud to ride with...

read more into my mods with the stage II cam 38 carb flowed head and full exhaust i'm nothing but mid to top end, my bike has an almost 2-stroke powerband to it, i seriously doubt your top end will touch mine unless your running different gearing than me if i was you i wouldn't be laying my money down so soon ;)
