416 Run in and Temps

Wen't break in new piston and cam today, Very pleased with bottom and mid range, revs real quick, Never past ¾ throttle and was very impressive. As for temps runs cooler than I thought.
Brought along Raytech heat gun, and rode with 300ex and a Warrior. 300ex cyl 254, degrees, Warrior -245, 416- 237. Today was the first time I ride with the air scoops installed, I think it is helping. Shot the laser on oil tank 136 degrees, right case 154, left case 162, ambient temp in the mid 40's

I think with some head work and FRC Carb it would really turn on

What is the temp of a Stock 400EX?

Dunno, never shot it before the new cyl. Wasn't really concerned
I quess. Prolly never shoot again. The worry is behind me now.
All sort of bad things running through my mind the first thirty minutes... (Failure)

Someone with one of those heat guns should buy a bunch of different oils and see which oil keeps the temp. the lowest. That would be real interesting.

If you really want to know how warm your oil runs, Al Baker's XR's O nly (760-244-2626) makes a nifty oil temp gage that takes the place of the stock dipstick for about $40.00 I just put one on my recently modified 416. Haven't had a chance to ride in the woods yet so I don't know any oil temps.
