Does anyone run without your swingarm skidplate? I was wondering if it's possiable? The positive is weight saving. The negative is(I think) dirtier chain, no PROTECTION(bent sprocket, damaged chain, swingarm damage, and bent brake rotor), and.....? I ride only in sand, so rocks aren't an issue.

i will always run a skid...even for MX...i know of 3 people that managed to bend a rotor at a track due to no skid, so to me its not worth the risk for 2 lbs...

I don't see it being a problem as long as its in sand.

nacsracer27, the oem one is no where near 10, maybe 3lbs! I think you can get a plastic skid plate from maier, that should weigh very little, if you doing it just for weight savings, look into some cheap plastic or aluminium ones and their weight because its not much weight really...

i was thinking the same thing, but then i thought it i were to bend somin on the track, then it wouldnt be worth it. And i sometimes ride trails. If i were u i would get some Aluminum skids just to be on the safe side. thats what im doing.

I have always wondered why people don't run them for mx either. I do mx and I would rather leave it on then buy a new rotor and all. Do you do it for looks or what? thanks

the skidplate grabs on mud & you bottom out alot easier i think ith it....if your trying to go throgh mud or sand id say take it off....other than that leave it on...it doesnt weigh enough to really notice anything so that shouldnt be a reason really....

i dont run one. i climb alot of hills and it gives me a little extra ground clearance. also i think it looks alot better with out that ugly stock black skidplate on it. been riding without one for over a year and have never tore anything up

i always run with it on, but i recently took it off so i could clean it. to say it was gross would be a understatement.

but yea, go ahead and run skidless :D

i want to get a plastic maier one, mainly because it is light and will protect me from the little rocks i will hit. i do not plan or goin on trails with huge a** rocks so i think i will be okay with plastic.

I guess I never thought about it catching on to stuff and I guess it would give you a little more ground clearance for mx. For those of you who have it off though and have a stock swingarm have you had an trouble with the chain since there isn't anything to guide it? thanks

I ran a skid when i had my stock swingarm. since i got my rpm swingarm at the begining of this season, i have not run a skid plate.......NO problem yet. i've ran on many types of tracks, from sandy, to rocky, to hardpacked, just about everything...and not a bent rotor, or brocken chain, or damaged sprocket, nothing!

For mx you would probuably be okay, but I would use one unless it was hitting dirt. Well do you want to risk braking your rotor, and get dirt in your chain and those small honda pads that have no pad to begin with. Skid plates weight nothing really.

The stock one works, but it is crap. I also dislike the chain slider. I got a PRM skid it weighs around the same weight as the stock one, but holds up better, and way better chain slider.
