The last couple days I was running some flat track, which on this track you are constantly WOT. The 400 was running good at first but it seemed as if the motor faded really fast. It was damn near 100 degrees and humid as hell here in Nebraska, but should it be doing this? Anyone else have this problem? Could mixing a 50/50 race gas and 93 octane help? Thanks for your help!

Sounds like your 400 is just running hot as it heats up it will lose power. My bikes ran hot at KAM too mostly because we race in the hottest part of the day:D

Yeah, we we're running in the afternoon. Do you think a race mix of gas will help cool a little bit? It really sucks because there was a 250ex there, and he pulled away from me......thats how bad it was...........A liquid cooled quad sounds real good about right now

ps: Where/What is KAM?

Straight racing gas may help keep it a little cooler. Even on the brink of a meltdown a 250EX shouldn't pull away from you. You could try bumping your main jet up a couple sizes, that'll also cool it down some, but not so much as to lose power.

that's gotta be embarassing when a 250ex is passing a 400.....

Well first of all he started infront of me, so he never "passed" me. He pulled on me......not like a large distance, but enough for me to know I was definately already running hot, because in a typical start I woulda been by him before the first corner. My motor just seemed boggy and didn't wana rev out. But dont worry, I let it cool down for awile and I went out and smoked the HELL outta him.

I would try some race gas and bump up your jetting. lean conditions will contribute to a hot running engine. From my understanding and what I've seen, stock 400EX's run a tad lean from the factory.

I'd think you have a problem...not just it got hot. I was racing on saturday here in southwestern Iowa. It was almost 110 with the heat index and we raced around 5pm. I noticed some power loss from heat, but nothing near where a 250ex could pull on me...there is no way in hell!

get some air scoops, run mobil one syntehtic, maybe even an oil cooler and ur bike should be chilly
