on my 400ex, i noticed that it doesn't pull in 4th and 5th like it use too. after the valves were adjusted, it seemed a little slower. it almost seemed as if i lost a little top end after the choke was removed too. my jetting should be pretty close. i am running a sparks x-6, uni, no lid, no choke with a 155 mainjet in the hot summer months. i am right around sea level. i guess i could try to adjust the valves again. how much pressure should there be on the feeler guage when adjusting valves?

Try a 158 or 160 main with your setup. As for adjusting valves, I just tighten the adjuster until there is drag on the feeler. You will get a feel for it after you have done it a few times.

when there is slight drag, i can still fit the next size on the feeler guage in. for example, if you are adjusting to .004, when i have the valves adjusted so there is slight drag, i can fit the .005 in. so i did not know if that was technically a little loose or what?? maybe thats perfect??

I said drag, not slight drag. :D Just don't go too tight, like crank down on the adjuster so you can't get the feeler out.

sorry, you did say drag. i was thinking slight drag because that is what it says on the do it yourself valve adjustment on this site. i guess i can check them to see where thery are at. by now i am tired of doing it though. lol
