Hey Im thinking of getting an HMF exhaust, before I spend my money on somthing Ive never heard before, are there any ofther exhaust that sound better and give more power??? BTW= Does the HMF sound good? Im on a stock 400ex, and I just want the Slip On. I kinda like the LRD, but Ive never heard it either.

I agree. If you ride where noise isn't an issue then the big gun sounds awesome.

Anyone know much about the Yoshimura exhausts? How much power will they give me? What they sound like? I have been looking at those, I want something that will give me power, but not something very loud and annoying that will give me a headache at the end of the day...but when I get on it, I want people to know I'm coming;)

PC t-4 sounds good.
As does sparks and LRD.
But Cobra and Dg tops them all.

Yoshimura are OK, but I want somthing a little deeper sounding. But if you want somthing people can hear you coming, go for it. I can hear my buddy from about 2-3 miles away.

07-27-2003, 03:13 PM
my friend has a yoshimuira and they are really quiet after hearing a cobra. if you can hear a ypshi for 2-3 miles than you can hear mine for 6. I'd get a cobra if you want people to hear your coming. though they dont sound that good.....

i like the sound of my T-4 a lot. its deep and it gets loud in the higher RPMs (when you get on it, they will hear you coming, otherwise its a comfortable loud)

the yoshi on my friends KFX sounds good. its almost the same as my T-4, mellow on the bottom but pops pretty good up-top.

another friend has the E-series on his 400ex and its about the same also, but its more muffled (with the spark arrestor) and slightly higher pitched. my T-4 sounds sweet IMO, its deep and throaty.

yoshi's dont offer as much performance for a 400ex, as they do for a 300ex. I would reccomend the sparks, DMC, or the LRD. All of these pipes are great sounding, and offer a good performance gain.;)

seems to me everyone loves there own muffler sound, , seems everyone gets used to there muffler sound and when they hear other peoples mufflers they think it's odd, or just not quite right. Take me for example I have a Megamax2 with with my stainless endcap that has a few holes in it, and then I made 1 CM spacers for every screw, the sound of mine is like no other, I love it,most people dont agree:devil: -darren

if this includes other quads as well, i'd say the CPI inframe pipes on my friend's tricked out banshee. it's ported so it gives the pipes a hollowed-out sound. it's the most unique sounding quad i have ever heard.

for the 400ex, i like the T-4 and the wb system. i once heard this LOUD-*** pipe on like a 440, i dunno what it was, maybe a sparks or lrd or tc, but whatever it was, it sounded mean as hell.

I just bought an LRD system. I pick it up Friday. I've heard one from a distance and they are LOUD but have a really good sound. Can't wait to bolt it up!

All I know is I have had several people come over to me where I ride and ask what pipe I have because they heard it and loved the way it sounds... I've had FMF, WB, and other exhaust owners say they'll think about switching after I tell them about my HMF with quiet-core. The quiet core cuts the volume without whimpin out the sound... I think it actually sounds better. I know there's a lot of great pipe manufacturers out there, but if I had to do it again, I'd still get an HMF. Actually, I just got a quad for my girlfriend and I'm sure an HMF slip-on will find it's way on there as soon as she learns to ride. :D

I've got the DMC full system on my 440. It was ranked as one of the top HP producers in all of the pipe shootouts. It's NOT cheap if you're buying the full system, but the power is DEFINETLY there and it sounds great too.
The sound is very comparable to a YZ quad

Yeah for me it was between the DMC and the HMF. I chose the HMF because the DMC (and many of the others mentioned on here) is sooo loud, and in CA there's not really anywhere you can ride with it. It amazes me how many people on here don't even seem to consider sound in their purchase... are most of you guys racing or riding on private land or do you just live enough far enough in the middle of nowhere that no one cares? That would be nice... :grr: I rode my HMF without the quiet core or sparky a few times and couldn't even tell the difference in power, but the QC sure made it easier to yell at my buddies and hear what they're yelling back while we're riding... now the only time I ride without it is at Sand Mountain where there don't seem to be any laws at all, other than you must have a flag.

Sound is not an issue for me because I race. Performance is what I am looking for. Does anyone know the "db" level of the LRD system??? I know most of the engine builders systems are over 100db's.
