Has anyone used the new Valvoline ATV oil? I've been using it for a while and my shifter feels notchy or at least I think so. Anyone else had this with this or any other oil?

Well, I run Amsoil 10w 40 full synthetic motorcycle oil and now once in a while I get a quick chirp from the clutch or a chatter from the clutch. Think it's the oil?:confused2

I threw a set of clutch plates in my dirtbike due to running ATF type F. But man, when I was running that shifting was so smooth and the clutch was like magic. Then I found myself in 5th tapped doin about 15MPH :ermm: . But I went almost a year with no problems, so I'm beginning to wonder if it was really the oil that caused it, or just wear.

i run mobil 1 15w-50 with my sparks clutch. when the bike is cold the clutch has a weird feel. it almost feels as it it doesn't totally engage. however, i don't know if this is the oil or the heavy duty clutch itself. after i ride it for a minute or two, everything is perfect. the clutch never slips or acts weird after the bike is warmed up.

the clutch on my 300ex totally went about 2 months after replacing an old one. I was using Havoline, and it just quit on me, i couldnt get it in gear or nothin. I have a Racing Clutch now, and now i run Maxima Oil.

I thought you werent suppose to use synthetic, because it makes the clutch slip, synthetic puts a coating on there that doesnt allow the clutch to fully grab.

I just talked to a couple of shops and they said you arent supposed to use a synthetic oil if it lubricates your clutch also. The synthetic would be awesome for the engine, but it really isnt meant to be used for clutches.

If I am wrong, please correct me, Im just trying to figure this out myself and let others know what to use...

long as you go with a motorcycle or 4-stroke oil synthetic is great clutch and gear problems will happen with car oil it's not made for that kind of stress

buddy of mine lost 2nd gear and a clutch because of car oil in just less than a year / he now uses 4-stroke oil and no prblems in the last two years of hard racing

I started using Honda GN4 lately. It breaks down quick but its cheap enough to where I can afford to change it alot. Before I was using PJ1 Goldfire synthetic oil. That cost like $7 a quart though. Both seem to be good.

Synthetic oils are great!! I personally use the AmsOil 4 stroke Motocycle synthetic 10w40. ** You must look at the back of the bottle and make sure that it says that it's wet-clutch compatable!! ** ;) ;)

I run Castrol 10w40

Any hear that running regular inexpensive auto oil isnt good for your dealer  :D

I still prefer the normal everyday mobil1 15-50 otherwise its been the honda gn4 20w50 and besides the fact the mobil is quiter and lasts longer I dont see any difference or at least havent so far, and funny its a better prod for about the same or less $$$.

Now how about these po arse excuses for an oil filter :grr:

I have been using Mobil One 15/40 fully synthetic oil in my quad - with a Dirt Digger clutch and my quad has been fine - I have a 440 kit so I like the synthetic stuff......so.....I don't know if I believe the synthetic stuff will coat your clutch......maybe it's my stiffer springs that prevents the slippage you are referring to? Just food for thought....:)

Mobil 1 15w50 since May 2002

Well, after talking to Crazy Honda and going back to GN4 oil I arrived at some conclusions on this. The GN4 oil works better for ME, I think that my weight being 270lb and 6'2" combined with the somewhat slippier synthetic oil may be enough to cause some clutch slippage for me. Working fine now. Maybe those 150lb riders do OK with those oils but not me.
