Can I use a stock head gasket on a 426 or do I need a special head gasket?
Thanx

drummer, I would think that you do not need "a special head" gasket for your 426. If anything, the smaller stock head gasket would decrease the volume between your piston deck and the bottom of the head; thereby, increasing compression. However, I personally would not do this cause it could cause detonation distortion across your new piston. In other words, just call Cometics and order the correct one for $20 or less, your not gaining anything either way (unless the gasket thinkness is smaller).

Good luck. Hope this helps.

Chad,
Realizing the piston edge does not go any higher in the cylinder than the top of the jug I didn't think that would be a problem, but detontion distortion was something I didn't think about, I will call Cometics in the morning.
Thanx,
