Mine will give a short chirp once in a while, or a chatter every now and again. Is this normal?:confused2

Sounds like you maty have some worn plates. I would remove the side case and inspect the clutch plates and basket. You may have some very worn fiber plates. Take that cover off and take a look, Before something gives out. :scary:

i also have a question about clutch failure, i have a 88trx250r with a 85 atc 250r motor, i noticed while riding that when i gave it gas it would hesitate, it would rev up but not put power to the rear wheels, then i went to ride agian and when i put it in first and released the clutch it felt almost like the clutch wasnt disengageing and it barly moves, but the bike still revs, would that be clutch failure or transmission failure?

if it moves, but gets to speed gradually it would be the clutch, usually transmission parts just snap and dont move

I would check the clutch adjustment 1st.
