Is anyone running true duals from the cat back on a 5.3 chevy[1999-present].Really what I need to know if you are[do you get the really annoying droning sound at highway speed].I had the noise with a flowmaster and switched to a magnaflow. The noise is gone but it just is not loud enough.I heard a true dual no muffler system today and really want to change mine but I don't want the drone back.98 and older didn't have this problem
thanks

TRUE duals are either from the manifold or headers back, ......;)

i have true duals on a 2001 gmc. i love them. they come from each cat converter back into 4"x24" tips...straight pipes all the way. they cackel when it's cold but carry a deep tone. i think you would like it. only complaint is a long trip with the enclosed trailer gets annoying.

i have the flowmaster 50 series on my 5.3 silverado and i love them, not too loud but not too quiet. i have heard good things about magnaflow, im pretty sure my friend has them on his bronco and says they have a better flow or more flow or something then the flowmasters. i think straight pipes would sound sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!

But when not towing an enclosed trailer 416, does it sound annoying in the cab?

i had true duals on my 98 350ci, and there was an annoying airy sound from each pipe upon acceleration. i solved this by installing an H-pipe. the bast place to put an H-pipe is the hot spot in the exhaust, this can be found by finding the discoloration in the pipe. most shops can put on in for about $15-$20. made it sound a lot better.

ohh and i still have the cats with 26" glasspacks. i love the sound..

I've got a 99 with the 5.3 in it. I started out with duals after the cat 2 1/2 with 4" tips and no muffler. But the nosie in the cab rattled the windows bad!!

So I put a single 3" pipe out the back, with the stock look. And still have no muffler. Sounds nice and deep, but when cold with cackel at about 2 grand for a bit.

And it looks stock.

Actually sly400EX, technically if you have 2 cats, 4 from each cylinder, I would think that would classify as "duals" :ermm:

The noise you hear most likely isn't related to the type of system, but to the type of mufflers. Most mufflers will have some sort of resonation at some place in the vehicles RPM range. The key is just to find a brand and style of muffler that suits your needs for sound and power output.

I have a Maremont Vortex system, and it doesn't have any resonation. You can buy these systems at almost any Carquest store. Mine is a "split"system with one muffler, but I've seen people use two of these mufflers mounted upright next to each other for a true dual system with good results.

thanks for all the feedback
I am going this Fri. to have the magnaflow taken off and 2.5" true dual pipes to 3.5" tips put on.I hope it all works out [the good thing is the muffler shop is going to work with my truck to get it right]

Yep.... the exhaust hides the lifters ticking, rods knocking, etc, and with a loud enough system, you can HARDLY hear the transmission slip.

LOL

I also heard on a quiet night you can hear a Ford rust.
